A day Out Near Ratchaburi

Post by pharvey »

I have a couple of week's break over the festive season, but in typical fashion have been asked to spare a day for business.

We'll be based in our place in Hua Hin, taking a few ''day away'' trips, but need to know more around Ratchaburi. I've worked there before so the Long Haired General has visited the floating market, and the the Bridge Over The River Kwai etc. (as have my parents)...... what else is there for a day trip for my loved ones whilst I'm stuck in a bl**dy meeting?

When I took clients for tours to Ratchaburi, we went to a Ceramics factory, huge stalactite cave, couple of Chinese temples on the hills and the bat cave. I'll try to find you more info later as I must go somewhere now.

I guess that the stalactite cave is named Khoa Poon Cave.
If I'm wrong then I would like to know more about "your" cave Bamboo.

Khao Bin Cave

The ceramics factory is on the road which goes towards the Khao Bin and Bat caves. Turn to left from Phetchkasem road before Ratchburi Town and drive about 2 km. It's just before the intersection leading to the caves. From that intersection turn to left to go to Khao Bin and to the right to Bat Cave. The two temples are about half way through this intersection and Bat Cave on the right hand side and are clearly visible from the road.

That temple is in Kanjanaburi. Actually I have never visited it and don't think I'd be too keen to go, not my cup of tea.

Years ago it was just a temple with monks and tigers roaming around in the temple. Now it has been commercialised and it is portrayed as a tiger sanctuary. Not my cuppa tea now but kids love it as the tigers are young magnificent beasts.

They tell you these are rescued cubs from the Myanmar border and they will eventually be released back into the jungle. Who knows. Somebody is making a lot of money in the meantime

Probably better if they're never released IMO.
