Hua Hin Airport to Operate International Flights by End 2017

Post by Big Boy »

I've only got a usually bad Google Translate translation, but it says,
Mr. Duntoon Sangcham, Director General of the Airport Department, disclosed about the small airport development plan under THA. As well as inviting private And airlines. Invest in commercial space. Including open commercial flights. To make use of the airport to generate revenue. Promote tourism And the economy of each province. And facilitate travel to the people more. Recent discussions with AirAsia. Interested to open commercial airline service at Hua Hin Airport. Prachuap Khiri Khan Because it is a tourist province that is popular with tourists quite.
Positive news for our little (300 passengers per hour) airport :D

According to the Daily News article, Air Asia is interested in starting a service to KL. But it wants to be excused most, if not all, airport usage charges during the initial start up phase, so that will need approval before anything happens. The article also mentioned the need for other stuff to be prepared, such as immigration and customs, and transport to HH downtown.

Maybe this currently 'unused for regular passenger traffic' airport should use this as a loss leader in an attempt to attract other carriers.

IMO, if the palace is not used as much as before which is a distinct possibility, any noise from increased air traffic may not be a significant issue. Pete

I thought there no commercial flights from Hua Hin at all. Which airline did you find?

I believe the last commercial flight was Kan Air operating to Chiang Mai,which to my knowledge has now ceased. The last international flight was Berjaya, flying into Kl's second airport Subang, which Air Asia took over and decided the route was not viable.
I flew it several times, but rarely was the flight full, however, never departed late from both airports and a reasonably good service all round.I believe Berjaya still servicing some of the Malaysian islands under the Air Asia flag from Subang.

Today, Kan Air's flight schedule, on their website, says they are still flying the Hua Hin- Chiang Mai route.

But you can't book a flight - just another Thai website, written, but not updated.

It's used by private planes, and the military also uses it. For instance, when they're conducting parachute training, their planes sometimes (perhaps always?) take off from there.

Very few private planes in Thailand. The main activity at Hua Hin airport is the Civil Aviation Training Centre (CATC).
Both fixed and rotary wing training is conducted there.

Albeit seldom news, this is good news. There were some mention of this in the morning papers a while ago. Though i did not hear anything since it's good to see there is progress.

I am thinking there will not be like crazy amount of planes, but those that will be, will be very appreciated for those who will be using them. So once again we will have the pleasure of viewing the Hua Hin horizons filled with air traffic.
