That would be my concern! Front up at arrivals and get told: "but you are already here"! "Lockup for you"!

I never saw the automatic gates, but my transit through the airport for departure last week was the fastest I've ever done. From walking through the door to standing in the duty free shop in about 15 minutes - the place was a ghost town.

I did notice that flight prices from the UK to Thailand in July are horrific ... which is bizarre as it is the middle of low season.

But it’s UK high season - anybody booking flights gets stung with the school summer holiday premium!!

I'm looking at a return for two weeks probably sometime in August and am seeing about 40K with Emirates via Stansted.

Roughly a month later, the fare is down to 35/36K.

I went in February (not ideal but..) and think I paid about 32K.

So, yes, steer clear of school hols.

Surely if this is happening on such a scale at the countries largest airport, they have realised that people are going to be entering without exit stamps.
I would have thought an electronic logging of your passport and the photo the gate takes is a lot harder to fabricate than rubber stamps.

Yes, lesson learned. I'm looking at about 32K for a one way to come back in mid-July on that route. :cuss: September has some really good deals.

OK, a long way off, but we had our first known visitor of 2025 book return direct with Eva, departing 20 Jan 25. He booked last week, and paid <£650.

I hadn't realised just how new these automatic departures were, they only opened on Friday:

That a very good price compared to what Thai are charging - I put in a dummy booking of 20/1 to 10/2 and it comes up with a price of Nearly £930Image

Going back a fair while, my parents flew out to Thailand and found it extremely good value, with decent service - not to mention decent legroom in "luggage Class".

High airfares to persist as travel booms, new AirAsia boss says

There’s no end in sight to the high airfares that are a mainstay of the world’s post-pandemic travel boom, according to Asia’s biggest low-cost carrier.

Travellers may see a little reprieve next year as jet fuel prices decline and the airline’s flight capacity rises, said AirAsia Aviation Chief Executive Officer Bo Lingam, who will head a new listed entity called AirAsia Group following a merger between the company’s short and long haul operations in September. But strong demand means airfares are unlikely to return to pre-pandemic levels any time soon, he said.

“My load factor is around 90% — this was unheard of pre-Covid,” Lingam, 59, said in an interview at the company’s headquarters in Sepang, Malaysia.

No kidding ... I just got stung more than the pre-covid price of a return for a one-way, flight prices have over doubled!

So is he saying the airlines are profiteering from the current upsurge in demand, and the only way to get fares to drop is to stop using the flights?

Most of the “price hiking” was led by western airlines and we all know that they’re quick to raise, slow to lower, so presumably the Asian airlines are making the most of their windfall.

I only fly internal at the moment, and I'm not really seeing any price hike at the moment. Only last week I booked 3 return flights to Roi Et for <1,200฿ each way, which I was more than happy with.

I was thinking of international flights rather than domestic, but good to hear things are more stable here.
