Looking to book a flight with AirAsia for March before prices are hiked and have found one at reasonable price but it has this warning: "Flight is subject to obtaining government approval".

I presume this is for a new route or airport? Has anyone seen this warning? Is it safe to book? How can an airline sell a flight that doesn't exist yet?

Although when you put actual dates in, the fares come out considerably more expensive than the “from” prices indicated

I presume from the lack of response, nobody has ever encountered this. Seems a little dodgy that an airline can sell seats on a flight that hasn't been approved yet. Not taking the risk with booking and paying for flights/hotels in advance and potentially having them cancelled.

^Yes, I’ve never come across that situation before but I personally wouldn’t attempt to buy a ticket under those circumstances.

Found identical return flights (different city), baggage allowance, etc, on Trip.com for 15% less than booking through AirAsia directly.

Has anyone used Trip.com to book flights?

I flew Guangzhou - Kunming - Guangzhou last Christmas time and booked the tickets via Trip. All worked well. I have used Trip quite a lot for my hotel and all my train bookings in China. For the hotels, they have much bigger selection than other sites I have used or seen, in China at least. I just booked a hotel for two nights in Shenzhen for the coming weekend.

The site has always worked perfectly for me and if for any reason I have needed to cancel the booking within the time, it's allowed, I've always got my money back swiftly.

My friend in the UK swears by them. She has just flown LHR-Hanoi-Luang Prabang, then Vientiane-Singapore-LHR, plus all hotel bookings as well.

As a consequence, I will try them for my next trip (hotels).

I've not used them, but I have a friend in the UK saying it is working out a lot cheaper booking through both Agoda and Booking.com, which I presume is similar to Trip.com.

But I am happy to ditch Agoda.

Yes, have also ditched Agoda (too much aggro and bs from them over the years).

Booked the flights through Trip.com and and saved 4,000 THB - will use that for hotels going forward. Thanks for the replies.

Thailand welcomes British Airways’ inaugural flight from London Gatwick to Bangkok
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is delighted to welcome the resumption of direct flights by British Airways from London Gatwick to Bangkok. The inaugural flight, BA 2231, departed from London Gatwick yesterday evening and arrived in Bangkok at Suvarnabhumi Airport this afternoon.

Mr. Siripakorn Cheawsamoot, Deputy Governor for International Marketing – Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and the Americas, said “British Airways’ new direct services between London Gatwick and Bangkok reinforce the position of Thailand as a premier travel destination. This flight resumption boosts our tourism sector and strengthens connections between Thailand and the UK, offering travellers endless opportunities to experience our rich culture and stunning landscapes.”

Mr. Siripakorn, along with Thai tourism executives from various public and private organisations, attended a welcome ceremony at Suvarnabhumi Airport to greet passengers on this landmark flight.

Beginning 28 October, British Airways is scheduled to operate three weekly flights until 30 March 2025, with plans to extend service until 26 April 2025. During peak periods, a fourth and fifth weekly flight will also be introduced.

Utilising its Boeing 777-200 aircraft, the flight will offer various classes, including Club World, Premium Economy, and Economy, accommodating a total of 332 seats.

British Airways will also provide codeshare services with Bangkok Airways, enabling seamless connections for passengers wishing to travel onwards to Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Ko Samui, as well as to Phnom Penh and Siem Reap in Cambodia.

I believe Eva and Thai fly direct from LHR to BKK. This is a newly revived route that was axed during Covid.
