Question about air ticket validity...

Mate is in a cab from airport to Hua Hin, having just got a cab from Hua Hin to the airport at 6 o'clock this morning what happened was he 'had' an open return to UK, couple of days ago confirmed it for this morning, got to the airport quite late, the airline ticketing office issued the e-ticket and took the 5k fee, then went straight to check-in counter (carry on bag only), and they couldn't let him check-in as it was supposedely too late. Went back to ticket office and they said it was his fault as he was late. He then took off and she called security

Leaving aside whether or not they should have issued it or not as that's a lost cause I'd expect, the question is is is is the ticket now used, expired, finished? I think it is 'used' now and no longer valid, he's planning on using it again next week

A no show without a cancellation is usually a total loss in my experience... but hey, I haven't been on a plane since 2005 so things could have changed. Some airlines used to try to even charge a fine on top of ticket price for a no show, but they found that impossible to enforce (collect) so to my knowledge that practice was abandoned.

If he's paid ''full fare'', he stands a good chance of not losing the ticket. If he's bought a discounted ticket, he's had it IMO - the ticket lost and he'll have to fork out for another.

It might be worthwhile going to a travel agent and seeing what they can do rather than trying to sort things out personally.
I've always found Western Tours to be very good. Maybe they'll charge a small fee?

IT really depends which airline he's using. If it’s with BA an open ticket normally is a full fare ticket, in which case your friends ticket is going to still be valid. I assume by you asking this question after him missing his check in time he did not do anything about his future travel arrangements, while he was at the airport, shame it would have saved him a lot of time and money. If he made the original reservation online then he may also be able to make any changes the same way, its worth trying. Go luck hope all work out well for him.

Thanks Ken. The airport office gave him a head office phone number for Bangkok and said there was no more they could do. He said the girl didn't really wanna talk about it once he started asking why she sold it to him, when it was effectively too late as 5-10 mins later when he got to check-in counter, they said 'too late'. But he knew that would go nowhere and he was the one who cocked it up, so jumped in a cab and called it quits bascially.

A Western Tours lady is dealing with it know to see if she can sort anything out. Think it's Jet Airways whoever they may be!!

I think Jet Air are an indian bucket carrier I am sure a mate of mine has used them and he told me "worst flight and stop over you could imagine flight delayed and over booked so not all passengers got to travel never again"

Hi All,

Jet Airways is a regular Indian Airline not a budget carrier. Their fares are on a par with other Indian carriers but cheaper than middle eastern and western carriers. Used them once and found the service on the flight was very good no complaints at all. The big downer was the stop at Mumbai that airport is a nightmare.
