One point that does seem to be repeated though is that the flight from Bangkok to Cairo is on a rather ancient aircraft, little legroom, poor reviews. The onward flight to London for example however seems to be comfortable, good value for money and on a far more modern aircraft......

I am doing this trip in June and still waiting for the aircraft confirmation. So far on checkmytrip.com all flights on Boeing 777-300's except Cairo to Bangkok Airbus Industrie A330.

Flights booked 06-10-2010 £550.30 (27,111 Baht)

Will let you know how I get on.

Egyptair flight MS 961 & MS 777, booked 06/10/2010
Flight BKK-CAI -- CAI - LHR 03-06-2011

Original departure time from BKK 00:45 Upon using http://www.checkmytrip.com in December 2010 I discovered flight time had been changed to 02:15 I did not receive email notification.

Checked in on-line and printed boarding passes. No baggage drop at airport and had to check-in at desk as usual. Desks opened 4 hours before flight maybe due to flight time change. Issued regular boarding passes. Also asked to produce credit card used for payment.

Well under passenger capacity. Business class empty, first class just one or two!
Pushed back and took off well ahead of schedule and therefore landed early in Cairo which made waiting time there half an hour longer than anticipated - 3.5 hours. Cairo airport easy transfer. Fairly long walk/travelator, wheelchairs/buggies available. Arrived LHR 15 minutes early despite circling for 15 minutes.

Both aircraft 777-300's, individual screens. Cabin crew did their job satisfactorily. Meals OK - BKK-CAI - Hot lunch Rice Chicken/Fish and cold breakfast. CAI-LHR - Hot Lunch Rice Fish/Beef. No Alcohol available on either flight.

Total cost for 2 passengers £1,100.60. I know you shouldn't do it, but I checked the price of booking a few days before departure date and in this case only about £100 more.

Verdict: If not using direct flight would use Egyptair again. Let's hope return trip uneventful too.
