Hua Hin To Pattaya By Air
Hua Hin To Pattaya By Air
Do the local banana airlines that fly out of Hua Hin Airport fly to Pattaya? Or is it a via Bangkok job?
Re: Hua Hin To Pattaya By Air
Since SGA quit some time ago there are no scheduled flights in or out of Hua Hin. When they did operate it was only to Bangkok.Rider wrote:Do the local banana airlines that fly out of Hua Hin Airport fly to Pattaya? Or is it a via Bangkok job?

White Elephants enjoy a very high status in Thailand.
Regional airports apparently don’t.
Although they built the bridge over the road and extended the runway considerably it’s apparently still not long enough to take any Long Haul flights – i.e. Charter flights from Germany or Scandinavia.
I’m a bit surprised there isn’t a Chiang Mai or Phuket flight to Hua Hin with a smaller plane.
Probably some local politics involved as usual

You are most probably correct there Wanderlust
I looked up the runway length for Hua Hin (HHQ) it is 3937 ft = 1200 Mtrs
Minimum landing distances for aircraft are given for Wet & Dry conditions and manual and Automatic landings. Automatic being considerably longer than Manual.
Minimum dry manual landing for a 737-300 1,800 mtrs and a 747 surprisingly only a little more at 2000 mtrs - obviously better to have a safety margin too....
Plenty of smaller planes - Dash 8's etc would be OK

The data that I have puts it at 2100 metres, (6,890 ft), single runway, 16 / 34 direction, asphalt surface. It is probably the surface weight bearing factor that is the limiter, as compared to concrete.
It also has a "buffer zone" which is an arc in a South Westerly direction, in connection with wanderlusts comments. Any "heavies" taking off to the South are obliged to make an immediate left turn.

The code that you have shown is the IATA code, so probably out of date, as you have written.Sabai Jai wrote:Nereus

I have actually been stuck in the airport after having arrived from BKK when the queen (i think, as i wasnt allowed out or anywhere near a window) was leaving HH on a 737 a few years ago.
The planes arent a problem, the lack of traffic was. I think there was a BKK to Samui (or Phuket ?) flight many years ago that used to call at HH. but, if anything like the HH to BKK route, lasck of trafffic killed it off. A number of times there was just 1 or 2 people on the plane which was great when you were a passenger and they asked you if they could leave immediately you arrived... but probably not so hot for the finances.

Normally I would agree with you on that. But I need to zip in and zip out of Patters like ghost and a plane would speed things up greatly.komfortablynumb wrote:Personaly i can live without an airport.
Lets keep HH a secret between us and the King.
Besides which, I'm a fly-boy kinda guy and love being airborne, as well as roadborne of course.
