LPGA coming to Black Mountain Hua Hin

Post by buksida »

Thai LPGA president Patinya Kuantrakul said the one million baht event, the sixth leg of the year, will be held at Black Mountain Golf Club.

"Only small details including the date need to be sorted out," said Patinya.

"It is one million baht tournament."

There are five legs in this year's calendar with the next one, the fourth, taking place at Green Valley Country Club on Aug 29-31.

The 48-year-old Patinya, who was elected as the Thai LPGA president in March, is happy with how the job is going but admitted she faced certain tough challenges.

"One thing that is really tough is getting sponsors to support the tournament," she said.

On Saturday, Patinya held a party to celebrate the success of three Thai golfers. Pornanong Phatlum (Brazil Cup), Rungthiwa Pangjan (Shanghai Classic) and Thanaporn Kongkiatkrai (Harun Energy Championship in China) have all tasted success recently.

Sports Authority of Thailand governor Kanokphan Julakasem, who was also at the party, admitted the association only has a small budget but he was impressed by Thailand's female golfers.

"The SAT is ready to lends its support but the association needs to focus on increasing its number of players as well as improving the overall quality of Thai golf," he said.

Cheers Buksi...The Thai LPGA website was a nightmare last time I looked so any knowledge of dates would be appreciated.

I don't know how Asia Tour golfers, male or female, survive. The prize money is so poor. Love Black Mountain though.

Yes, tough to make good money on the Asian Tour but some do and make a lot of money as well. Simon Yates (long time Hua Hin resident) has made a lot of money playing the Asian Tour for the last 17 years and invested his winnings well in land over the boom years. He is now a very wealthy man.
Costs an average of about 1500 dollars per event, travelling from Thailand, so the guys winning over 100 000 dollars per year are making a nice living for about 15 weeks work per year. Most of them have other events to play in, away from the Asian Tour, and can pick up a little bit with some sponsorship and bonuses when they have a high finish.

Frankly that does not say very much for the other courses you have played.

The facilities at BM are great but the course design was never that good, although the improvements last year and currently taking place are very much for the good

Scotland has fantastic courses so I guess you never played them, similarly Ireland, further a-field Melbourne, but the list goes on and on. As you are in the UAE when I played the Emirates it was hugely better than BM - so our perspectives are somewhat different.

The point I am making is that what may be good to you does not mean we should all rush to it, and it is rather disingenuous to infer that as a Scot you have nothing better at home ?
