Hello,
i would like to buy a used motorcycle or car, for about 100-200,000bath. The Facebook marketplace page seems to be a good place.
Can you give me some tips on what to look out for.
- Are such amounts paid in cash, or is it possible to pay via WISE?
- Which documents does the owner have to hand over in any case, or which documents do I need for the insurance?
- Are there perhaps other good platforms where you can find what you are looking for?
Any tips are very welcome!
What to consider if buying a used car/motorcycle
Re: What to consider if buying a used car/motorcycle
Since you'll be fairly new to Thailand, I would suggest renting long term, perhaps a year? I'm sure you'll get good rates for a long term rental. Your budget will not get you a decent 4 wheeler, and as a novice to Thailand motorcycles are not a particularly good idea.
When I first came to Thailand I took mainly public transport to get the feel of the traffic and the locals driving habits before I ventured out, about 3 years down the line.
Only buy if you have a necessity to use it.

Also, judging from your previous posts, you will be coming here from Europe. The vehicles here are right hand drive, and we drive on the left of the road. It is something that takes getting used to.
From experience, my first time driving in Europe was quite harrowing.

Can you give me some tips on what to look out for. I have bought a car locally from FB marketplace and a bike from Bahtsold, both were good experiences and I have had no issues with either vehicle. The 'local' market around Hua Hin/Prachuap is not high volume and cannot really be compared to BKK so you will likely be waiting a while to find something that fits your requirements. For that budget you will likely be looking a quite nice secondhand bike or a fairly old car
- Are such amounts paid in cash, or is it possible to pay via WISE? Either is fine but if you pay cash get a written receipt in English and Thai. You can transfer THB direct to the seller with Wise sure, or just transfer to yourself and then to them via your Thai bank.
- Which documents does the owner have to hand over in any case, or which documents do I need for the insurance? Green or Blue Book, current insurance and tax, authority to transfer doc signed.
- Are there perhaps other good platforms where you can find what you are looking for? FB, Bahtsold, Kaidee.com, several other local websites you can find by searching. Many (most?) vehicles are listed on multiple platforms.
