Work started today (20th). The road surface was having a cut put into it with what looks like an industrial circular saw. Was not causing any traffic issues but once the big equipment comes in I will start to find an alternative route.

The mayhem started today. Of course, the road closure doesn't apply to motorcyclists - they just find a gap to ride through - police could/should have a field day fining them. Quite funny is several cars were finding their way into the closed area, and couldn't find a way out i.e. work trucks blocking one end and barriers blocking the other. Many 3 point turns taking place.

We went for brunch at T&Ms, and the mayhem was hilarious.

The head shakers must have had a field day.

Road Improvements around Hua Hin

Post by Gregjam »

Good to see traffic lights being installed at the NongKhon junction. Should save a few lives and initially could be a revenue generator as no doubt many locals will ignore or not notice the red light.
The soi 94 work is expanding my knowledge of the rat runs although it would be nice if it was a bit clearer when you can pass through but that is just me dreaming Ithink.

Nong Khon junction is on the Pala U road outside Wat Nong Khon about halfway between Hua Hin and the bypass. The road from the junction goes towards the immigration office. There is a school there also and it is a very busy junction.

Oh, that's great news - I hate that junction. It will be a great improvement.

Okay, thanks, I know the junction well, but didn't know the name. Lights definitely needed because of the speed of the traffic on the dual carriageway. Relieved to here this.

I disagree, only useful at peak times. At other times of the day its a breeze.

I will bow to your greater experience. I usually pass through about 4pm, when I guess there is a lot of school traffic.

Are you saying another unnecessary spend of money, when there are worse junctions in Hua Hin to address first?

Maybe they will install “intelligent” lights there, that only operate at peak times - they have them elsewhere!!

Meanwhile, back on topic, does anybody know what is happening on Soi 94 now?

From what I can see, work seemed to finish on phase 1 a few days ago. Diversions are still in place, but many are seemingly ignoring diversions. I'm still obeying the diversions, but most definitely seem to be in the minority.

Went up 94 today and will keep clear once work resumes on Tuesday I guess. I prefer 94 to 88 coming from Nong Pran Peuk and the wife like to see if the regular morning drinkers are at the place just up from the seven before the UR.
I live near the Nong Khon junction so use it at all times of the day. The lights will certainly improve things at school opening/closing times. Otherwise it will be interesting to see if they improve things or with the locals aversion to stopping at a red light, increase the amount of accidents. In theory they should make turning right safer as there will not be the guessing game of who goes first.

Well, it must be a month since I've seen any work here. How very Thai, rip the guts out of the Soi, turn it into single file traffic in many places, and then walk away for many weeks.

At this rate, Soi 94 will go into the Hua Hin Hall of Unfinished Projects. It will feature alongside such gems as the Temple Wall, Grand Market and the Fishing Piers.
