Couldnt it have just been an automated camera?Big Boy wrote: ↑Wed May 22, 2024 10:41 am I'm just back from my daily trip to Khao Tao. That entire stretch of central reservation has absolutely nowhere for somebody to hide/cover from the sun. No self-respecting Thai, let alone police officer would spend that long standing in the sunshine.
Could it have maybe been a camera car? Were all 4 photos taken from the same location, or differing locations?

Talk is cheap
Re: Hua Hin Speed Cameras
I'm pretty good at spotting them. On the stretch of road in question, apart from the cameras at the university junction (I don't think they are speed cameras), there are not any cameras that I can see.

To show how these cameras can be hidden, here is one in Luxembourg in an election poster:I'm pretty good at spotting them.....

It's not possible to tell if the photos are from the same location as the image size varies. Some photos seem really close up and only the front of the car is seen where others are more distant which is how I know. the camera was low down and looks to be located in the central reservation. One thing I did notice is a green spot pretty much central on all of the images - laser perhaps??
Re: Speed Cameras
This recent influx of speed cameras is getting a lot of coverage on social media. As I thought, the "black glassed thing that looked like a lamp - I guess that contains the speed sensor" is what makes the difference on the recently installed cameras.Big Boy wrote: ↑Sat May 11, 2024 10:59 pm It doesn't sound off for anything unusual other than automatic doors when I go past a 7-11, which is fine - I'm used to that . I did have a list of the various frequencies it detects, but no idea where that is now.
Very few of the new speed cameras brought a reaction, but what I did notice (during daylight, of course), every warning I received, there was one or more camera, but also a round, black glassed thing that looked like a lamp - I guess that contains the speed sensor. Certainly the set up near HHH has one of these black lamp type things, if anybody wants a better look - I had no warning on either my app or detector for that one, so I guess very new.

Wow, there's plenty of those next to Macau, in China's Zhuhai city and they flash quite often, most likely just to record the registration plates of the cars passing by as I have not noticed anyone driving too fast.

There's no noticeable flash in Thailand.

Just for info. Driving up past Nakorn Sawan from Bangkok.. Some way past Angthong but before Singburi I got a laser alert before a radar alert. Traffic stop was a couple of km further up the road.
Looks like they have new toys to play with.
Oh, no more visible flash, they're now using infrared instead of normal flash..

THANKS ... as heading up that way myself next week. Usually set speed control for the limit, but do find myself zooming pass 100kph while passing at times. Need to exercise some will power, as they really are enforcing the speed limits now.VincentD wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2024 10:12 am Just for info. Driving up past Nakorn Sawan from Bangkok.. A good thing, unless it's me getting zapped
Re: Hua Hin Speed Cameras
There were two checkpoints, both at the old toll booths. The trap is after Angthong and before the first toll booth. I'd stick to 100 kph as there is more than one camera and if you're not running a decent radar/ laser detector you're likely to get pulled over. Note that this was in operation before 8 a.m. and they're typically on the other side of the road in the afternoon/evenings coming back into Bangkok.
I was using the back roads after the Nakhon Sawan bypass so can't advise after that.
Drive safe.

Oh, and this being Thailand.. That 100/120 kph lane thing is still very much in the air, they've removed a lot of markings from the road itself so I suspect many stretches have reverted back to the 90 kph. I did 100 in the center lane all the way without incident.

I've just read on social media that these cameras have now been activated.

Really? Who does only 60 kph travelling north after the palace traffic lights?
