My friend is coming over to Hua Hin to live and is from Austria. She would like to take her test when over here but that may take a while and she wants to be mobile. I have advised her to obtain an Austrian international drivers permit, but she seems confused about it and sad it was very expensive. i was wondering if anybody from Austria has an international drivers permit and could enlighten me as to the procedure and cost
Cheers
Any drivers from Austria?
Re: Any drivers from Austria?
I do not know if the following is of any use, but at around 20 Euros it does not seem expensive. Just watch out for scams with this, as the only authorised places are automobile clubs in each country.

Re: Any drivers from Austria?
I think if she has an Austrian licence plus and International permit, she will be able to get a licence without taking her test.

Re: Any drivers from Austria?
Hi nellyp,
I actually didn't need an international license in Cha-Am. I used my EU Austrian license (pink one) and it was no problem. If she still has the pre-EU-era license, she should definitely get an international one.
Cheers,
B.

Re: Any drivers from Austria?
I said she'd need both based on friends being refused because they did not have have an International permit. That was at Pranburi a couple of years ago. At the time, they said UK and US licences were OK alone, but anywhere else, they needed the International permit.
I guess it's a case of TIT. Depends which official you speak to.

Nereus is right. Here is a page from an Austrian motoring organisation: https://www.oeamtc.at/thema/fuehrersche ... h-16182304.Nereus wrote:I do not know if the following is of any use, but at around 20 Euros it does not seem expensive.
