Pedestrian traffic lights at Bangkok Hospital
Pedestrian traffic lights at Bangkok Hospital
I have noticed in the past few weeks that these lights are switched off at weekends - just when the road is at its busiest and it is almost impossible to cross the road.
Could it be that the police are trying to get traffic moving, or is the Bangkok Hospital getting desperate for buisness?

Re: Pedestrian traffic lights at Bangkok Hospital
I have noticed the same for several weeks and I'm convinced that come weekends when BK arrives the MIB switch 'em off in order to demonstrate their skills in traffic management particularly as tourists will note just what good care they are taking of them (Thai PR sh1t). The BK hospital lights are now a lottery in terms of crossing. Police do man the main intersections but only BK hospital now and again. Not too many tourists cross there so no need to impress I guess

And I would guess exactly the opposite. These people are not clever.
IMO the on goings with the traffic lights probably have more to do with a mechanical (such as it is) and/or an electrical problem that they can't get sorted. Who really thinks that the street dept of HH (again, such as it is) has anyone on staff that could correctly assess a mechanical/electrical problem the first time?? And someone else who could actually go out there effect repairs??
Be careful out there.
Cheers!

That's a hell of a mechanical failure that turns themselves off every Saturday and Sunday!
Of course they're switched off by choice. The question is why.

Re: Pedestrian traffic lights at Bangkok Hospital
Maybe they're worried with so many visitors in town, somebody may actually stop when the lights turn red - that could cause chaos

It's amazing how BKK hospital got a pedestrian crossing OK'd & yet there's no such thing at M.V...?
Message to BKK hospital group..use some of you shareholders money to build a footbridge...& stop contributing to H.H.'s traffic problems.
(Keep their lights turned off for an extra 5 days a week will be fine by me).

Pedestrian traffic lights at Bangkok Hospital
Not amazing considering it's a public company and more than likely is the standby place for the number 1 resident in case of emergency.usual suspect wrote:It's amazing how BKK hospital got a pedestrian crossing OK'd & yet there's no such thing at M.V...?

Sorry, I thought is was a private hospital (owned by one of the richest Thais in the Kingdom) and number one resident would not set foot in it while HH hospital is kitted up for the purpose

If this thread is to continue, can we keep to the subject, and not who lives where.

Not too many people use that crossing, so my guess is that the lights are turned off to help keep the traffic flowing, and also to minimize the potential for accidents. Let's not forget, rear ending or tail gating is quite common here, so maybe this has also been taken into consideration.
I have never figured out why there are not more foot bridges in town. Surely they don't cost all that much. Maybe a few Toll Bridges.

Don't try to impress me with your manner of dress cos a monkey himself is a monkey no less - cold fact

Bangkok Hospital is a public limited company owned by BDMS.
Re: Pedestrian traffic lights at Bangkok Hospital
See they were turned on again this afternoon.
Quite a few people use this crossing. Also, I do not think that this contributes to the usual weekend gridlock, even after stopping 30 seconds for a red light, you are still going to be held up at Market Village. There is more potential for accidents for pedestrians trying to cross a busy road. Foot bridges are a great idea, for most people who are fit enough to climb up and down stairs.
Believe it or not, I reckon 95% of motorists will obey the red light and let pedestrians cross.

most of the tourist i see here are morbidly obese and combined with the heat and humidity I doubt most could make it up and down the stairs twice.

Apology accepted but it is a public company - probably with some of the richest Thais as major shareholders so you are right to an extent.richard wrote:Sorry, I thought is was a private hospital (owned by one of the richest Thais in the Kingdom) and number one resident would not set foot in it while HH hospital is kitted up for the purpose
