Actress dies in highway car crash

https://www.bangkokpost.com/news/genera ... -car-crash

Actress Natnicha "Nong In" Cherdchubuppakaree was killed in a car accident in Ayutthaya province on Saturday.

The actress, a 20-year-old Bangkok resident, was found dead inside her BMW sedan on Highway No.9 heading to Saraburi in tambon Chiang Rak Noi in Bang Pa-in district around 8am. She had crashed into a roadside tree.

Rescue workers, who were informed of the accident by a passerby, needed to use special equipment to retrieve the body of Natnicha, which was trapped inside the driver's seat. The actress has also sustained a fractured skull.

A damaged mobile phone was also found in the car.

Her body was taken to Thammasat University Hospital for a postmortem examination.

Rescue worker Siriwat Pakchareon said the vehicle appeared to have skidded off the road and crashed into a roadside traffic sign before smashing into the tree.

He assumed the vehicle skidded because the road was slippery following heavy rain.

Nasty accident on the Klong road this evening , a dog ran into the road knocking a guy off his motorcycle..i think the dog was killed ..or as good as. The Thai fella on the motorcycle luckily limped away from the accident , but was clearly quite hurt.

This is a regular occurrence ( dogs causing accidents ) in LOS ..just another reason why the dog population should be cut / controlled.

Bus crash kills 6, 17 injured, in Tak

https://www.bangkokpost.com/news/genera ... red-in-tak

TAK: A double-decker bus carrying Myanmar factory workers crashed off the highway and overturned in Muang district early on Monday morning.

Six people were killed and another 17 were injured, "about five seriously" according to first responders.

The accident occurred on Highway 12 (Tak-Mae Sot) at Ban Mae Ta in tambon Mae Thor, near the Myanmar border.
All 52 passengers on the chartered red bus operated by Jongjaroen Capital Co were workers recently arrived from Myanmar. They were heading for a factory in Plaeng Yao district of Chachoengsao.

The bus smashed into a roadside concrete guardrail on Doi Ruak mountain into a roadside ditch and overturned.
Rescue workers used hydraulic jacks to free the injured from the wreckage. They were taken to Somdejphrajaotaksin Maharaj Hospital in Muang district.

Police identified the bus driver as Pisit Tanapakpasit, 40. He was unscathed.

The bus had left Mae Sot district about 8.10pm Monday. It ran off the highway on an accident-prone steep and winding downhill section about five kilometres long about 10.50pm.

Police quoted the driver as saying he was unable to slow down the bus using the brakes. He then tried to use the guardrail to slow down, but to no avail. The bus plunged off the road and into a concrete lined ditch about five metres off the highway.

The accident happened about five kilometres from the spot where another double-decker bus caught fire and killed 20 Myanmar workers at the end of last month.

Holy crap - this could only happen in Thailand ...

Speeding bus kills official inspecting bus crash scene
A speeding bus running down the slope section of Mae Sot-Tak highway slammed into a police car and road barrier, killing one official and injuring another who were inspecting the scene of fatal bus crash that killed six Myanmar migrant workers.

The repeated bus crash at the same location where the double-decker bus still rested on its side on the ditch in Muang district of Tak happened at about 10.30am on Tuesday (April 10).

Highway authorities at the scene said the bus with no passengers was running down the slope section with speed and was swaying severely before veering through the traffic barriers erected to warn motorists of the presence of officials inspecting the bus crash scene.

Manida Thankitrungroj, a senior specialist attached to Tak labour office, was killed at the scene, while another person was injured.

Authorities said the bus was running down with speed and might develop brake failure.

Speed limit was set at 40 kilometre/hour at the spot but the driver suspected to drive faster than the limit.

The driver was detained by police.

^^ Set off at 6pm, accident at 9am. 15 hours is a long time on a bus. Couldn't possibly be the same driver that started the trip. Could it?

Crashes claim 9 lives, 36 injured

https://www.bangkokpost.com/news/genera ... recent_box

Nine people were killed and another 36 injured in two road accidents overnight, one involving an interprovincial passenger bus in Nakhon Sawan and the other a pickup truck carrying people home from a festival in Sa Kaeo.

In Nakhon Sawan, two women died and 32 other passengers were injured when a Bangkok-bound bus from Tak plunged into a ditch in Muang district,
The accident, on Highway 1 (Nakhon Sawan- Kamphaeng Phet) in tambon Nong Krot, was reported to Yoi Nong Ben police just after midnight on Friday.

Emergency units sent to the scene found the overturned Bangkok registered bus, owned by Cherdchai Tour, lying on its side in the median strip ditch near Kaset Chai Farm in Ban Thanon Khong.

Two women found dead at the scene were identified as Phimolpha Kawinwalai, 24, and NiNi Aung, a 32-year-old Myanmar national.

Thirty-two others, including the driver, Suriyan Sumlai, 36, were taken to Sawanpracharak Hospital. Five were admitted and the remainder treated for minor injuries and discharged.

Police said the bus was travelling from Mae Sot district in Tak to Bangkok. Mr Suriyan told them a motorcycle cut in front of the bus and he lost control avoiding it.

Police were not convinced by his explanation and said they would investigate further.

In Sa Kaeo, seven people were killed and four injured when their pickup truck overturned on the way home from the Wan Lai festival, a local event to celebrate Songkran.

JS100 traffic radio’s website reported that local rescue workers were alerted to the accident on Highway 317 (Chanthaburi-Sa Kaeo) in Wang Nam Yen district around 9.25pm on Thursday.

Upon arrival, they found a pickup with Sa Kaeo licence plates overturned in a roadside ditch in front of an Isuzu car showroom.
The injured passengers and bodies of the deceased were scattered around the vehicle. Their names were not released.

Three of the 11 passengers died at the scene. The eight others were rushed to Sa Kaeo Crown Prince Hospital, where four of them were later pronounced dead.

Injured passengers told police the vehicle had suddenly veered off the road and plunged into the ditch.

Bus crash in Surat Thani leaves 20 injured
Bangkok- Khanom bus ran off Highway 41 and crashed into roadside tree injuring about 20 passengers on Monday morning.

The bus from Bangkok was on the way to Khanom district of Nakhon Si Thammarat with 36 passengers when it slid off the highway in Chaya district of Surat Thani at 5.00am, and crashed into tree by the roadside and flipped over.

About 20 passengers were injured.

Rescue and relief officials were alerted and arrived at the scene shortly afterwards. All were admitted to Chaiya and Thachana hospitals for treatment.

Bus driver Somsak Jaijang, 55, claimed a 10-wheeler cut in his right lane too close in overtaking his bus, forcing him to swerve to the left to avoid hitting it.

The bus then slid off and fell into the ditch before striking a tree and flipping over.

But highway police said they suspected his claim as GPS tracking system of the bus showed he drove over restricted speed limit twice before the incident.

Besides they also found no tyre traces that showed the bus driver had applied the braking system before it went off the road.

He was booked for speeding, police said.

Pair survive SUV plunge on washed-out road

https://www.bangkokpost.com/news/genera ... recent_box

NAKHON RATCHASIMA: A wind farm executive and his driver survived with minor injuries on Saturday when their sport utility vehicle plunged off a road washed away by floods that ravaged Sikhiu district.

The Mitsubishi Pajero with Bangkok licence plates was travelling on Road No.3059 from Huai Sai to Huai Bong in tambon Kritsana when it plunged off the damaged road section at around 4am on Saturday.

The road was cut off for a distance of 15 metres during heavy rains that triggered floods and runoff in Sikhiu and two nearby districts in the early hours of Saturday.

The two men in the vehicle, one of them an executive of a wind farm in Dan Khun Thot district, managed to escape from the overturned SUV, which was stuck in deep mud. They sustained minor injuries. No other details were available on their identities.

Local officials set up barriers and signs to warn motorists to use alternative routes. Rescue workers were sent to salvage the vehicle after floodwaters receded.

Many houses and farms in Sikhiu, Dan Khun Thot and Theparak districts were hit by floods and mountain runoff after hours of downpours that pounded the areas from late Friday night to early Saturday. Floodwaters are now starting to recede.

Nakhon Ratchasima governor Wichian Chantharanothai ordered chiefs of the floood-hit districts to survey damage and provide assistance to affected residents. He also ordered local authorities to speed up the repairs to damaged roads.

Bus exploded in flames after engine shorted out

https://www.bangkokpost.com/news/genera ... recent_box

An air-conditioned, gas-fuelled bus burst into flames after a short circuit in the engine compartment and was destroyed on inbound Sukhumvit Road in the Ekkamai area on Tuesday morning.

Due to the quick thinking of the crew, all passengers were whisked quckly off the bus and were uninjured.

The BMTA was later eager to point out the bus was owned by a concessionaire and although also made in China it was not built by the same company that supplied the natural gas fuelled buses on the city's own bus fleet.(CYA department)

The No.40 bus, on the Lam Salee-Southern Bus Terminal route, caught fire in front of the Gateway shopping centre in Khlong Toey district about 9.30am.

It blocked the road, causing heavy traffic congestion.

Firefighters called to the scene quickly extinguished the flames.

Police said the bus ran on compressed natural gas and the fire started in the engine compartment, possibly caused by an electric short circuit there.

Prayoon Chuaikaew, acting director-general of the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority, later confirmed the fire was caused by a short circuit in the engine compartment.

Bus staff were quick enough to evacuate passengers so that no one was hurt.

The bus belonged to concessionaire Pornpin Transport Co. It ran on compressed natural gas and was made in China under the Golden Dragon name, he said.

Officials of the BMTA and the Land Transport Department would check all Golden Dragon buses serving route 40 on Friday to ensure they were safe.

Mr Prayoon said the BMTA itself was operating 100 natural gas-fuelled buses built by Bonluck, not Golden Dragon.

And would you dare go on a Thai manufactured plane, with a Thai pilot?
