18 students injured as school van crashes into ditch in Hat Yai
Eighteen students were slightly injured when their school van crashed into a roadside ditch about one kilometre from their school in Songkhla's Hat Yai district on Tuesday morning.

The accident occurred on the Hat Yai-bound Asia highway in Tambon Khor Hong. The van driver, Yongyut Thongsalalluan, 35, told police that he was driving the students from Songkha's Chana dsitrict to Thaweerat School in Hat Yai and was about one kilometre from the school when the accident happened.

He said a car turned in front of his van, forcing him to swerve to the left. He then lost control of the van because the road was slippery after rain, and the vehicle crashed into a roadside ditch. The students were taken to Rat Yindee Hospital. They were slightly injured from the impact.

18 Students in a mini-van. OK it's possible, but not legal. Police stop mini-vans to check everybody's belted up. Otherwise fines are dished out.

I guess no money to be made from kids.

Again, I guess the school's culpability will be overlooked, putting 18 students onto a 10 seater (13 at a squeeze) mini-van.

10 hurt when passenger bus plunges into ditch

An interprovincial passenger bus travelling from Bangkok to the Northeast plunged into a roadside ditch in Sida district of Nakhon Ratchasim province in the early hours of Wednesday, injuring 10 passengers.

Police said the bus was carrying at least 30 passengers and left Mor Chit bus terminal in Bangkok on Tuesday night for Nong Khai.

Driver Thongchai Chaikuad, 33, told police a truck cut right in front of him. When he tried to avert a collision he lost control of the bus, which veered off the road and into the tree lined ditch.

It crashed near kilometre marker 229-230 on the Mittraphap Highway No 2 around 2am.

Many passengers were not wearing their safety belts and the impact threw them out of their seats, causing them injuries. Ten passengers were rushed to Sida Hospital.

A bus was arranged to take the unhurt passengers to their destinations.

Police were investigating the exact cause of the accident.

Nearly all bus/minivan accidents state the same cause; a car/truck turned in front of me. The drivers need a new script.

Or start approaching junctions at a sensible speed, whilst not texting their girlfriend.

CAR CRASH KILLS 7 IN BANGSAPHAN
Seven people died Monday after a truck crashed into a car and a pickup truck outside Bangsaphan.

Police said a preliminary investigation indicated that the truck – running on southbound roadside – lost control as the driver took a sudden turn to avoid colliding against another vehicle, slid into the northbound side and crashed into the car before hitting the pickup truck shortly before 7am.

Half of the car was crushed under the truck. The pickup skidded off the road and was partially damaged.

The truck driver and six passengers in the car, all male, died at the scene, said Lt. Col. Pongsan Chaipan of Bang Saphan police station. A woman who was also in the truck was critically injured and sent to hospital.

There were no reports of injuries from the pickup truck.

Pongsan said identification documents found on the victims indicated that some were related, adding that all had been identified and their families contacted.

Re: 49 missing as boat overturns in seas off Thailand

Post by PeteC »

All 47 bodies from the Phuket boat accident have now been recovered. The Thai owner of the vessel and the chief engineer (not specified if design or maintenance) were arrested yesterday. The captain and I think one other crew member were previously arrested.

47 represents about 4 days of non-motorcycle traffic deaths here using the 80% are motorcycle fatalities formula. Of that 47 I would think at least half, 24, are caused by commercial vehicles from vans, busses, 16 wheel lorries etc.

When is the last time you ever read or heard that any official or owner of the transport company responsible for these vehicles and drivers was arrested and prosecuted? Never is the answer. In all my years here I've never read it even once. Where is the outrage about that?! I guess as money spending foreigners are seldom involved it's not considered that important. :banghead: Pete :(

49 deaths get the foreign media reporting the story, so the Thai authorities have to pretend to be taking some action. Dont hold your breath waiting for the trial. In surprised that 2 Burmese deck-hands have not been arrested.

Twenty-five French tourists and one Thai guide were injured with 4-5 of them in serious condition after a tour bus in which they were travelling overturned on a secondary road in Mae Lao district of Chiang Rai province on Tuesday.

Rescue workers said that most of the tourists sustained bruises and were discharged after given first-aid treatment at Mae Lao district hospital.

The accident took place in Ban Huey Sarn Yao in Tambon Dong Mada, Mae Lao district as the tour bus was travelling from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai.

The bus driver, Mr Natthapol Klinchuen, who escaped unhurt waited for the police at the scene of the accident. He reportedly told the police that he lost control of the bus when it arrived at a curve which was slippery due to rainfall.

The bus then smashed into a kilometer marker and then into roadside bushes before it overturned, said the driver, adding that he did not accelerate the speed nor was there any car trying to overtake his bus which might cause the accident.

SURAT THANI: Twenty-five passengers were hurt when a Bangkok-Nakhon Si Thammarat interprovincial bus crashed into a road barrier and overturned in a downtown area of this southern province on Saturday morning.

The crash occurred ahead of the construction site of a bridge over Bang Kung intersection, said police, who were reported at around 6.30am.

Bus driver Sombat Duangmat, 49, told police that the bus, carrying 45 passengers, left Bangkok at 10.40pm on Friday for Nakhon Si Thammarat. On the way, it had rained along the southern route from Chumphon province, said the driver. The bus belonged to Nakhon Si Romyen Tour Co.

He insisted he drove slowly with caution, but the vehicle suddenly veered off the slippery road to hit a roadside concrete barrier and overturned.

The force of the crash injured 25 passengers, 15 of whom were women. Most of them were hurt slightly and taken to a nearby hospital.

Police were investigating.

Huge traffic jam after trailer truck overturns on Motorway
July 28, 2018 Nina Suebsukcharoen http://thairesidents.com/local/huge-tra ... -motorway/

(A follow up article with more details should be in the Bangkok Post sometime tonight)

A BAD accident took place on the Motorway heading for Pattaya at 2 p.m. today (July 28, 2018) with a trailer truck crashing through the median barrier and slamming into several vehicles on the opposite side leading to unconfirmed number of deaths and injuries, Sanook.com reported.

According to JS 100 radio, the accident occurred at kilometer 73 of the Motorway in Chonburi and Highway Police are rushing to take the injured victims to the hospital.

With the trailer truck obstructing most of the outbound side of the Motorway, a 7-kilometer long tailback had built up.

At 3 p.m. a crane had come in to remove the trailer truck and it was expected to complete the difficult task in an hour’s time.

^ I recall when the Motorway first opened they didn't allow more than 2 axle vehicles, and no motorbikes at all. Got greedy yet again at some point and opened the flood gates, and now we see what happens with overcrowding, endless jams and accidents. :banghead: Put the damn big trucks back onto alternate routes and stop bowing to the company owners, regardless of how much they "donate". :cuss: Pete
