Private Teacher/Tutor

Post by Joelt9791 » Mon Jul 16, 2018 7:57 pm

What would it cost (rough estimate) to hire a teacher to help us home school our children?

We are planning to move to Hua Hin late next year after I retire. My wife and I are in our early 40s and her father also live with us.

We have 4 children who will be at the time 11, 7, 5, and 4. We had always planned to home school when we retired. We were looking at some home schooling programs (school in a box) so we would not have to develop curriculum and it would keep lesson planning to a minimum.

We are not looking for a teacher to teach all the kids. What we are looking for is help in delivering the curriculum (since the children out number us) and assisting us with their general education.

What are your thoughts as to cost, employment laws, and time (we were thinking 3 to 4 hours a day year round).

Thanks!!

Hi there, I've been tutoring my 12 year old for the past 2 years. There aren't strict laws here with regards to private tutoring as long as it's small scale I would imagine. Though the end of next year seems very far away, I am in Hua Hin Mon-Thurs and teach in Bangkok Fri-Sun. You may want to send any further info by private message.

There is a homeschooling law in Thailand giving the right to alternative education. The family falls into that category. However, an application is supposed to be made. The cultural side of the curriculum has to be followed. The kids are supposed to be assessed each year. The upside is that you can claim the government subsidy (although small) that all schools get.
