Teacher bashing girl student
I would just love this B---**** to do this to any child of mine.
Teacher: You look like hilltribe children
http://www.bangkokpost.com/vdo/thailand ... i-thailand
"This happened at a renowned school in Pathum Thani province," the student wrote. "The teacher did not want the students to wear warm clothes when they lined up in the morning to sing the national anthem, because they would resemble hilltribe children.
"Nothing will happen to the teacher. At most, the school director will just have a quick talk with him and everything's settled. We, students, can't do much."
Net users criticised the teacher for using "excessive force" against the students, and accused him of looking down upon children living in the hills.

A great example of the backward (nothing short of fascist) social engineering/conditioning that is rife in many areas here.....especially the education system.
I can just imagine the lessons entitled "Unit 1 - Know Your Place"...."Unit 2 - The Patronage System"......"Unit 3 - Hierarchy"......"Unit 4 - General Deference"...."Unit 5 - Cultural Submission."
I could go on, but won't.

If you can't teach and inspire, then, as a second option beat them physically or mentally. It's a learned and practiced trait that permeates through Thai middle management. I wonder why?

Re: Teacher bashing girl student
It's unfortunate but...
... students, in Thailand, going to anything lower than your 'run of the mill' EP program school (at 100k a year for the cheapest options) don't have a fighting chance.
Hence, I stress that - unless you can afford a half-decent education in Thailand for your kids - don't have kids.
It's not fair to bring them 'willy nilly' into Thailand's cheaper education system, simply because you thought it 'would work' at the time. A child's education will cost you, at minimum, 120k baht a year from Kindergarten 1 (3 years old) through to university (Masters? PHD? Pffft...)
That 'at minimum' really is being quite conservative too.
If you can't afford it, don't get it.

So who is to say they wont get hit/abused if you're paying 100k+ a year for a school?
We had to move ours from an expensive bilingual school because one of the teachers (yes, it was the son of the owner) was using "excessive force" against the kids.
What you pay is irrelevant, violence at schools is commonplace here throughout. There should be cameras in all of the classrooms and the nepotistic hiring of unqualified relations to teach at schools needs to stop (but this is Thailand and nothing will change in my life time).

Re: Teacher bashing girl student
There are many rogue teachers everywhere....foreigners can be blagger and the Thai ones can often be nazis trying to perpetuate an outdated MO of social engineering. We had to move ours from an expensive bilingual school because one of the teachers (yes, it was the son of the owner) was using "excessive force" against the kids.
As an aside, it's worth mentioning that this (refering to the quote about family run establishments) also is a symptom of what's so very wrong with many educational "institutions." So many are private family run businesses where the members of that family hold ultimate sway in a private fiefdom (bordering on being untouchable). Quality of education comes a sorry 3rd or so in the pecking order after profit or paying 'bums-on-seats' as really it's little more than a business. The only sensible places here are like the autominous universities which are properly government funded with no meddling from MoE/anyone so they can consentrate on what they should be doing......providing a good educational service.
Many of these so called schools/colleges etc don't even have the decency to have a board of directors.....just some archiac old lady that belongs in the 1920s making all the calls....FFS. And, btw, I've work at a few places like this and I sure some others that are involved in education have too.
This is one of the reasons why so many believe getting a "degree" is little different than getting a pack of crisps from 7-11....pay your money and get the goods.
Not healthy....and is how incompetence is perpetuated into the system again and again.
Could go on...but won't, sigh.

You keep rattling on about posters on this forum, bashing/hating Thailand.
The Thai education system is stuck in the dark ages, that is why so many, so called, "Native Thai teachers" feel that beating a subject into their pupils, is easier than engaging them in what, should be, a happy time in their lives.
I remember a maths teacher in my youth in the UK, that was also his style of teaching. Until a group of young students caught him outside of school and beat the cr@p out of him.
He reaped what he sowed and I for one, don't blame those kids. People like him should never be allowed to get near kids, let alone teach them.
I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.

Here is a follow up to this incident:

Head-striking teacher says lazy students angered him
A Pathum Thani teacher who was caught on video smacking two high-school girls around the head said he did it in a fit of temper because they had not handed in their homework, a school investigation has...
...........................................................................................................
And here is the reason why such things will continue to happen:
Leaving aside the teacher issue, this incident is a plain simple case of assault. And I can guarantee that if the child's parent were to go and hand out the same treatment to the ignorant imbecile, he or she would find themselves under arrest within the hour.

There were talks with parents and the students … and the parents did not want to pursue charges [against Mr Thanabadee],” the school director said.

Nereus Thanks for that link.
The only good thing in the BKK Post story, is that the teacher involved, is retiring in September.
I suspect that this guy and many other teachers in Thailand, have been doing this for years.
The problem for them is, most school kids now have the ability to capture the assault on their phones and put it online.

My wife tells me that these students will be taking their exams in about another 4 weeks and the likelihood of them passing, if their parents pressed charges, would be less than zero.

Cynicism (almost) to one side, I'd say this is a minor victory for the students. At the cost of a clip round the ear (and no, I'm not in any way condoning it), they get their grades, and the publicity from the brave use of a cellphone is a small step in ensuring that this sort of behaviour is eradicated.
Speaking from experience, most teachers hate mobiles in the classroom, but in this case mobiles undoubtedly win.
