Hua Hin Vintage Car Parade *Now with Photos*

Post by Big Boy »

The Hua Hin Vintage Car Parade No. 13 will be staged at the Sheraton Hotel again this year from 20 to 23 Nov 15. This year's theme is Greeting the Gasby. As usual, the cars will be out and about most days, returning to the hotel late afternoon, where they will provide great photo opportunities.

What is a "Gasby". Did they mean "Gatsby"? Or maybe it's Gas By________ (add name). In any event, "Gasby" doesn't seem to exist when looking for a definition. Pete

I did wonder about that. Almost certainly they mean Gatsby, but I'm going with the Thai publicity statement, which is most certainly Gasby. Besides. Thais will probably argue that their spelling is correct, and the rest of the world is wrong :?

If people are going to the Sheraton, not much point arriving much before 4 (if last year is anything to go by). The cars will be out and about until then.

Thanks for the advice BB! I had just packed the wife, the dog the camera into the car to head off there. I will delay until later in the day. Looking forward to it as I have never been to a car show in Hua Hin. I had been to a club event of British and European Marques in chiang Mai about 10 or 12 years ago whilst working in the region and it was very different from the gatherings in Oz.

If it's the same set up as last year, travelling South from Cha-Am, take the turning immediately before the Sheraton. There is a car park there where many of the cars were parked i.e. a lot more than were on display outside the hotel foyer. When you've finished with the car park, there is a side entrance to the hotel to see the rest of the display.

They run a courtesy golf cart shuttle from the car park to the hotel. If you ask at the hotel reception they should have a "program", which they will give you. Last year on Saturday, all the cars went to a local golf club for lunch, so if you can find out if the program is the same this year it is a better bet to follow them there, as the cars were in a much better display area.

Thanks Nerus we went to Sheraton a little earlier and was advised by security that the motorcade had left about 10am this morning And we're heading to Pranbury for lunch. The expected return was circa 4pm this afternoon to the Sheraton. Did however notice a variety classic cars heading back towards the Sheraton including a number of roundie mercs, few British Marques, and MG,s from TD,s through to a number of MGB,s have run out of time today however will head up there early tomorrow and have a look.

I took a trip down there this afternoon. First surprise was there were no cars on display in the car park.

It was a warm afternoon, so I took advantage of the free shuttle to get to the area outside reception. Again, I was surprised. Yes, there were cars here, but less than a third of what was on display last year. However, enough to make the trip worthwhile.

After I'd seen all that I wanted to see, I thought I'd have a slow stroll back to the car park. On the way back, I noticed one of the cars I'd just photographed pull into a multi-storey car park that was still being built last year. I looked in, and there were a lot more cars parked there. I took another wander. I stayed on the the ground floor only - I didn't bother to explore other floors.

All in all, I reckon I only saw about a third of what I saw last year. Maybe some cars were still out, enjoying showing off in the sunshine, or maybe there were more on other floors - a good show regardless.

Here are some of this year's cars:

A note to our Forum backroom technical team. Last year this post took 2 days to put together. This year it took exactly 21 minutes from taking the SD card out of the camera to the post being live on the forum.

Sometimes we take the forum for granted, but this shows me what a long way we have moved forward in just 12 months.

Thanks for the pics BB. Hopefully get a chance in the morning to have a bit of a look around. Never seen a 2 door series 1 Daimler before complete with wire wheels!
