We normally wander down to the Bintablock area. 5 Street usually have a foam party. That aside, you're going to get wet anywhere :D

Made the mistake of cutting through the back streets o Cha am a few days after The main event in Hua Hin last year. Try going there if you want to extend the experience.

Thanks guys. Was thinking town might be the way to go. Would you say that the evening of the 12th would be worth the effort, or just leave it until the 13th? Not that I do anything else during the day anyway. Cheers.

Evening of the 12th should be excellent in the centre of Bintablock. Things normally start to quieten down on the 13th from about 4pm - after the parade.

Of course, you'll always find pockets of madness for the duration.

Big Boy wrote:I had intended taking my truck out for Songkran this year to join the mobile revelers. However, my daughter tells me that trucks with water on board have been banned by the fun police this year, and those ignoring it will face an on the spot 5,000 Baht fine.

Has anybody else heard of this restriction please?
I see there is a cardboard mock up of a pick-up truck in Tesco, loaded with water butts for sale. The indication being that you need to buy your water butt to go in the back of your now, in preparation for Songkran.

Why let Thai law get in the way of a profit? :?

Oh..and 1 more little issue...My Mrs STILL believes there MAY be a chance of an alcohol ban here in H.H. over Songkran!
(In her own words.."They could do this to us without any warning")

As predicted, 5 Street will be keeping with tradition starting with a torch parade on the 12 and the foam party on the 13th.

 I guess that could be a challenge extinguishing the torches as part of Songkran.

If you do a search you'll find that this has been covered a number of times - it will start on the pm of the 12th and all of the 13th, some areas might extend this a bit, but not much more.
