Hua Hin Cricket Sixes

Post by buksida »

The Bangkok Post-Hua Hin Cricket Sixes 2014 has attracted a record number of 21 teams who will be plying their skills April 5-10 at the Dusit Thani Hua Hin hotel.

The flair of the 19th edition of the tournament is once again distinctly Australian. Bob 'Dutchy' Holland, once Australia's leading offspinner, is making his maiden foray to Hua Hin in the company of compatriots Shaun Graf, Michael Taylor and Mick Lewis who, at the height of their powers, represented their country.

They are joined by current state-level players Dan Worrall of South Australia, hard-hitting batsman Michael Hill of Victoria, Aaron O'Brien of New South Wales, and all-rounder Mike Dighton of Queensland.

The teams will be competing in three divisions - Cup, Masters and Veterans.

....and that was your 111th post Mark!!!! David Shepherd is hopping around up there in heaven right now!! Bob Holland must be getting on.. he was pretty old when I packed in 20 years ago!

Had teh honour to play in teh sixes 6 years ago in teh same team as Trevor Chappell - what a guy he was, every morning at 7am he would be at the Dusit coaching 10 - 15 young thai children. I also ran him out!

Will defintiley try and make it there over the weekend alsoways some good laughs and some great cricket!

Hey John

87 is the Aussie unlucky number and I hope you don't bowl under arm like Trevor Chappell

If you do get out there ask Dan Worrell if he is a good drawer .He was fined and suspended for scratching a picture of a male bits on the pitch

Colts win Cup final
As the dust settled on the last day of the Hua Hin-Bangkok Post International Cricket Sixes yesterday, amazing cricket was seen.

In the Veterans final, the Leongatha Woodchoppers beat the Gold Coast Tigers 88/1-46/2.

As predicted the most exciting game of the day was the Cup final which saw the Melbourne Cup Red take on the Thailand Colts.

Bobby Raina took two wickets off nine runs leading the Thailand Colts to a 0/49-4/45 victory.

Hua Hin Cricket Sixes set to blast off today at Dusit Thani
The 21st Bangkok Post Hua Hin Invitational Cricket Sixes tournament begins today at the Dusit Thani Hua Hin.

The outfield is in perfect shape and the pitch is set to assist both batsmen and bowlers with the weather expected to be sunny and warm.

The 20 participating teams look particularly strong, especially in the top-tier Cup competition. The 2015 winners, Thai Thevada, will be boosted by the addition of national team star Bobby Raina and Victorian Mick Lewis. A strong Carlton CC line-up, two more experienced Melbourne clubs, and the Walton Warriors all have their eyes on the Cup.

Favourites in the Masters are Narayanganj CL from Bangladesh whose gifted players with international experience are likely to be challenged by local crowd favourites, the Thai Masters.

Play gets underway at 8.40am and will continue until 5.30pm.

We had a good afternoon at the finals today with some serious play from the Bangladeshi side with all their ex-international players and a nice friendly atmosphere.

Sorry BB, I didn't have the sort of camera available that would do justice for a shot from a cricket boundary.

Sometimes a player was close enough to photograph.
