Journeys to the city of three bays

Post by buksida »

Missed this one, but am posting it anyway as its relevant to our region:

Prachuap Khiri Khan is also known as "the City of Three Bays". Until Sun, Feb 19, the "Travelling to Prachuap Khiri Khan, the Wonderful City of Three Bays" fair is being held on the beach overlooking Prachuap Khiri Khan bay. The aim is to promote tourism and raise income to support the province's activities.

The fair features cultural parades, mini sound-and-light shows on the city's history, local cultural performances, exhibitions, the sale of Otop goods from the province and the four regions of Thailand, sailboat racing, beach volleyball, takraw and Thai chess contests, a mini-marathon, a photo contest and a beauty pageant.

Visitors can also take an 80-minute boat trip to cherish the beauty of Prachuap Khiri Khan bay at night while having supper, enjoying music and listening to well-known folk tales, such as the one about Ta Mong Lai.

Meanwhile, another highlight is the Cultural Bridge at Muang Koh Lak overlooking the bay where artists from Hua Hin's Ban Silpapin and Cicada Market showcase artworks and visitors can see and buy art pieces and souvenirs. Also, there will be cultural performances and the demonstration of local traditions and ways of life.

To visit Kui Buri district, a Thai safari destination, tourists can take shuttle buses from in front of the city hall. They can stop at Wat Kui Buri to worship Luang Por Nai Kuti, then ride a boat on the Khao Daeng Canal and trek in a forest to see some of more than 200 wild elephants living in Kui Buri National Park. If they are lucky enough, they may even see wild bulls roaming the forest along with the elephants.

Even though the fair is over, Prachuab makes a great day trip to escape the hustle and bustle of Hua Hin.

My family are coming to LOS for the first time next month. I'd like to visit Prachuab as a day trip with them. Is it easy enough to drive there without getting lost, my sense of direction is not too good, and roughly how long is the journey?

It's almost impossible to get very lost as there is only really one main road, Highway 4, heading south in that part of Thailand. If you're driving through the centre of Hua Hin, just keep going south for about a hundred kilometres and you're there in less than an hour and a half. It's certainly no problem for a day trip.
