Classic Movies

Post by lomuamart »

Thought I'd start a new topic on this as it's different from sandman's DVD thread in as much as the films may be a bit old.
Some I've watched recently and have thought very good are:
Dead Man's Shoes - Shane Meadows (director) and Paddy Considine at their best.
A Room for Romeo Brass - another Shane Meadows film
The Flowers of War - Christian Bale being dissolute and honourable during the rape of Nangjing.
The Stone Roses - Made of Stone - Shane Medows again following the band. and a great rendition of "Fools Gold" at the end.
Sexy Beast - Ray Winston and Ben Kinsley are brilliant. I always think of Ben Kinsley as Gandhi but he makes for a horrible gangster. On a plane back from Spain " You want me to put this cigarette out - go on make me". Or something like that. The airline staff just didn't know what to do with him.
Seven Psychopaths - Sam Rockwell is awesome
Confessions of a Dangerous Mind - Sam Rockwell again playing a game host show who's recruited by the CIA as an assassin. Based on a true story but who knows? The CIA denied it all.

By the way, most of these films shouldn't be shown to your children.

If you're a fan of Sam Rockwell try The Way, Way Back. Awesome 'coming-of-age' comedy/drama where Rockwell steals every scene he's in.

It seemed to be about the civil war but be careful of the mushrooms!!!!
Blew my mind away. I'll definitely need to watch it again.

I think Schindlers List is stunning.
I also like a lot of Stanley Kubrick films.

Can't disagree there Kraka... :naughty: :naughty:

Full Metal Jacket and The Shining are in my own top 10

King does not like Kubricks Shining and the book is quite a bit different. Both v good though.

My all time favourite is Fargo (1996)

Jerry Lundegaard's (William H Macy) inept crime falls apart due to his and his henchmen's bungling and the persistent police work of the quite pregnant Marge Gunderson (Frances McDormand)

Directors: Joel Coen, Ethan Coen
Writers: Ethan Coen, Joel Coen
Stars: William H. Macy, Frances McDormand, Steve Buscemi

Dozer...are you watching the TV series? I'm quite impressed with it.

Wish they would to a series based on The Big Lebowski
