New Season of 24 started today based in London, started well got me hooked

TRUE DETECTIVE

Nice little slice of Southern Gothic police procedural with a storming pair of performances by Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey as two busted up and broken down police officers who revisit a 17 year old cold case involving bizarre ritualized serial killings and a mysterious figure known only as the Yellow King.

I really liked the way if chopped between the segments of original 1995 investigation and the modern day Internal Affairs driven investigation that spurs our two down and outs back into action. McConaughey in particular plays a chilling role - cold and analytical, broken and haunted. Fans of gothic horror will also riff on the sly references to The King In Yellow and other Lovecraftian stuff wrapped into the tale.

Its an anthology series, so series 2 will be a completely different story and cast. Gotta say Im looking forward to it.

Series 1 is now complete and out at all the usual places. Get at it chums



And while we are at it, out with the telescope m'lads.... theres sails on the horizon.

CROSSBONES

A fictionalised account of the life and times of Edward Teach aka Blackbeard....king of the piratical bad lads.

John Malkovich is playing old Teach...which seems a bit odd.

Looks good though and set for release at the end of May.

worth keeping a weather eye on me buckos while we languish in the doldrums waiting for series 2 of BLACK SAILS.

^ They show a lot of good series on that channel, i.e., Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Hell on Wheels, Mr. Selfridge, etc. You just have to watch the schedule for them.

Michael Bay, director and/or producer of such cinematic greats as The Rock, Bad Boys, Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, Transformers 1 - 4, produced a cable TV show, 'The Last Ship'. All his trademark features are present, including the enjoyable trashiness. One critic said Bay's films are all explosions, concept and caricature but the small screen demands characters, not caricatures. That critic doesn't know the fans of Bay's films. Two episodes of season 1 have aired, available in all the usual places.

A puzzle of an international thriller and family drama. As good a first episode of any series I can remember. Stars Maggie Gyllenhall, playing enigmatic as she does so well.

Centers on Nessa Stein, a woman who inherits her father's arms business. He was an active supporter of Israel. A philanthropist, she creates a huge commotion with plans to fund infrastructure to promote the reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians.

Joint British / US production. Airing now on BBC 2 and Sundance Channel.
