Bar Review: Celtic Bar Hua Hin

Post by rosax13 »

The Celtic Bar in Hua Hin was one of my favorite Pubs for long time.
On your vacations it's good to know, where you can enjoy a cold beer include meeting friendly girls.
I was really confused, when I returned to the Celtic Bar after months of hard work in Europe.
Many things changed!
If you can't speak Thai, you'll have a hard time to get a drink.
There is nearly no English-speaking stuff anymore.
The girls are nice, but not very interested in taking care of customers, too.
The pool table is mostly occupied by young Thai-men from afternoon till late night, or till they're totally drunken.
The best is really the big screen TV for Saturday-nights-soccer-events, but I suppose that isn't reason enough to visit this Pub often more.
You'll find better more Bars around !

This bar was allways my favorite bar in Hua-Hin
BUT ..many things had changed at celtic-bar. Owner, bargirls...
During my last holidays I was disappointed about celtic bar and stayed several times at U-turn. Just keep a eye open  and you will find a good bar with fun !
A good place was Hilton and after the karaoke bars 8)

regards from Swiss

Thanks for your comment, Rosso !

I heard already that the old owner sold the Celtic for an extraordinary price to a Scandinavian guy.
But it seems, that Thais are running the business now...unfortunately not very professional.
A service-girl tried to explain me, that one of the permanently drunken and pool-playing Thai-boys is the new boss or manager, because his sister married this Scandinavian.
It’s a very impressive reason to become patron of a Bar, isn’t it :? ?

However, I find out, that U-turn and also Mondo-Bar are very good alternatives to this jerry-shop.
The Hilton I'll test next time!

I just wonder, why the new owner didn’t change the name of the Celtic…not so good to make customers believing, that this is an Irish Pub further on…. especially, if nearly no stuff is able to read the own English-written cocktail-menu :banghead: .

Sali rosaix13

The old owner was An and she open a bar between Cha-Am and HH.
The new owner is a Skandinavian which should have a look at his business. Maybe he make a lot of money....
Is the girl "On" still there ? Tell her some greetings !!!!
Near to Celtic is Old-Germany which offers good beer and food
or what about Rockestra on the mountain ?
Grrrr....I m sitting in Switzerland and need urgent holiday.....

Maybe tonight I will go to Thai-Thai-Club in Zürich

regards

Went to Celtic bar twice a couple of weeks ago. I speak quite good Thai. I was very polite, smartly dressed and not drunk. Not one girl wanted to speak or comunicate with me in any language.
Whats the point?
As we say in Birmingham 0121 DO ONE! to another bar.

Totally in agreement, that bar needs a face lift and the darts board is seriously deformed. :o

Well, I don't know about a new management, but it explains a lot !!!

In former times the Celtic Bar was well known for funny girls, good music and late night drinks.
Nowadays you can forget about all...the most girls are arrogant and unable to communicate, they don't know anything about actually soccer-games, the prices for spirits are exorbitant (just beer-prices are ok), and don't wonder if the bar is closed earlier than all other bars.

Hey Mr. Big Boss, good luck BUT kick the drunken Thais away, teach the girls a little bit English, renovate your Bar and you'll become rich hopefully

I have used the celtic bar for the last 6 years but no more,

The new owner decided one night to pocket the girls tips and this was the last straw for me.

When Ann owned the bar it was the best in Hua Hin but now it,s finished.

There are still a few good girls there ie onn ell and maybe a couple of others but since the the new owner has filled it with his village girls it has gone down hill quicker than the Aberfan coal tip.

So my question is when will the bar ratings start to show this downturn on this site? Martin??????????

I don't think I'm being too touchy when I say that this comment was in extremely bad taste and totally unnecessary on a public forum in a thread about the quality of bars and their staff! 144 people including 116 children aged under 10 killed by a landslide hitting their school is not a good source of humour.

For those who don't know what happened at Aberfan, just put a search into google for anyone of a number of links that describe the horror. Here is a link to a web site set up as an archive of the disaster:

Hi Rosso,

Was with our big german friend last night in Funny Girl bar, and no we did not drink the dreaded Jaigermeister.

Seems he may not be using the celtic much now as they dont want anyone who knows the bar to speak to the swedish owner???? or is he::

Look forward to seeing you in november.

At first, thanks to my friends for telling me about this forum and the website "huahinafterdark".

Like tuctucmike I was a regular customer in the Celtic Bar, former Shamrock, for more about 6 or 7 years.
I never had any problems and could spend innumerable nights of fun together with my friends and the service-girls.
Honestly I must confess that I wasn't amused to hear, that the new Thai-Management started to speak bullshit around about regular customers like me, preferably behind the back.

I really can't say, that the new girls in Celtic are arrogant or careless.
Like the most Thai-girls, which are growing up in a village, they're just uneducated.
(It's not the wrong of these girls, that the public school system in this country is absolutely worst).
They really try to do their best, but all takes time.
On the other side it's more than just ridiculous to allow a young Thai-man, which isn't able to speak another language than Thai and hasn't apparently any other business-skills, to manage a Bar for TOURISTS, like the Celtic.
But I’m sure they will find out by their self, that anything doesn’t match, especially if the sales falling-off.

By the way, a Swedish man bought the Bar for his Thai-wife for more about a half year ago.
I could meet him sometimes, and we had a good time together with a lot of Aquavit-drinks.
May be everything is ok in his eyes!? Who knows ?…and that shouldn’t be the business of family-outsiders normally, too.
Of course, me and my wife will keep more distance to the Celtic Bar in future, because we don’t need to be involved in any mess.

Nobody is being forced to visit the Celtic Bar, and if you don’t like this place anymore, just go to another Pub…. there’re a lot!
Remember, you don’t need any bartender, but the bartender needs you and your money!!!

Although this isn’t a private chat-room, best regards to Rosso, tuctucmike and Martin.
Hope to meet all of you for couple of drinks (the well-known German liqueur, of course :D ) soon.
Cheers!

Mike, I agree that there is a place for dark humour. It does after all allow us to broach taboo subjects but is probably more appropriate in a pub with your mates rather than on a public board - you never know who's reading - and since you have made your home and business in Wales you will know what an emotive subject Aberfan is.

I fear you are being a bit disingenous Michael! Formerly from South Wales you may be but aren't you about as Welsh as jellied eels?

As for Celtic Bar, which was what I originally intended to reply to, I agree with the general consensus on this board. I went in there when last in Hua Hin in March this year and was disappointed with the atmosphere. I spoke to a few ex-pats who said the same thing. Like Larry70dj I speak passable Thai and can hold a reasonable conversation but it seemed that the staff at Celtic ran out of things to say before I did. I think Hogus' take on the girls is quite right though and I don't think they were being deliberately ignorant but just a bit clueless. Everytime I passed it afterwards, there were few clients and I suppose when the place is costing more to run than it is making, then things might change. Perhaps they need to take some lessons from the girls dancing on the tables in U-Turn Bar a few nights later!

Hey Michael,

you can't make the girls responsible for the mistakes of an incompetent management.

Everybody knows there is a big difference between TO BE a Bar-Manager or just to PLAY a Bar-Manager.

Let us follow the advice of a well-known Upper-class-statesman of this country, who said, " Just ignore them!" :thumb:
