When I was a kid, playing with a wet leather ball with laces, that would have been a bloody good idea!

Maybe the whole game needs to be properly thought out like rugby, where certain elements of the game are only introduced as a player becomes older. Rugby academies, in the UK at least, are excellent from what I've seen, and stick to the development regulations rigidly.

Of course, just put the same kids on a field with no instructors, and its no holds barred

Nowadays you could probably head one of the new lightweight balls further than you could've kicked one of the old wet leather ones

I remember getting a football for a birthday present as an 8 yr old. Leather ball with rubber 'bladder' to tie it closed and a tin of 'dubbing', to treat the leather. Plus boots with the heavy 'toe cap' - wonderful.

Head the ball? - why the hell not?
