Health check-up, Dental work: quotes/recommendations

Post by joesgonnago »

Joe here,

I will be heading to Thailand in less than 2 weeks. I have done a good amount of research in regards to hospitals in Bangkok and have been recently advised to check out Hua Him by a friend. I would like to get a full check-up done; blood, urine?, EKG, physical exam, ect. Basically, the whole deal as I am 42 and have not had a decent, thorough exam in nearly 20 years. I would also like (I can't believe I actually mean this) to get a colonoscopy done.
Also, I am in need of dental work; a bridge (root canal already done), a cleaning, perhaps whitening, and maybe even 'reverse' braces which go on the inside of your teeth (bottoms only).
Let's not forget a consultation for my hemorrhoid which might need surgery.

Ok. So. Now that you know all about me.....please help to point me on the right direction. If you could give some ballpark quotes as to what I should expect to pay for some of these procedures and where to go, I would be very grateful. Sarcasm accepted. Able to return the favor in the form of a coffee, lunch, or cold beverage.

Thank you in advance.

Although I've used Bangkok Hospital quite extensively since moving here, my preference would Petcharat Hospital in Petchaburi - good, honest doctoring (is that a word  ) without having to keep shareholders happy. Having said that, they would both 'probably' do a good job.

Thistle, do you book this online or at the hospital reception. That's a good price I was expecting this sort of stuff t be much more expensive.

^ Me too. Was that a special or is that the regular price. The same hospital chain in Bangkok charges (or used to) around 8k baht for a complete physical.

Possibly the price i paid was a special offer, however i do know that they do this on a regular basis to try and compete with the other HH hospitals, especially for farang.I have in recent days received and sms from the hospital advising me of various offers they have during the month of august.I made my initial booking directly at the hospital. There is a filipino lady in charge of customer relations called Irene,i suggest you give her a call, and hopefully she will be able to assist you.

I've received several texts recently offering special discounted rates for a complete check up. So I guess its the loss leader, hoping to sting you big time if they can find something serious wrong.

I too received two SMS messages from the Bangkok Hospital in the last week advising special offers, but just deleted them as I assumed they would be their normal rip-off prices, but maybe I missed an opportunity, although as you suggest I could still contact them.

The above post is a little confusing. Sorry for that. The website has a graph that clearly marks which package offers what services. As I am new, I wasn't allowed to post a web address.
I was quoted a price after filling out a questionnaire of 16k+ Baht. I get a yearly screening in China for my visa that includes a chest x-ray, EKG, blood work (screening what I have no idea), abdominal ultra-sound, ENT check, and urinalysis. However, the results are never explained to me.
My only issue is the large gap in package prices.

I get my yearly company physical at Bumrungrad, covers most of the items in your post and some additional.
Get there for 07:00 and all done by midday or early afternoon.
Cost is in the ฿15,000 to ฿20,000 range
I tried to arrange the physical at Bangkok Hua Hin a couple of years ago and they were just not geared up for it, maybe better now.

I get the full range of tests (near the top package) about once a year. I used to go to Bumrungrad and the last time it was around 12k (several years ago). I then discovered St Louis Hospital on Sathorn road and get exactly the same checks for around 7k and a lot faster as there is usually no (or very little) wait time at each station.

Thank you all for your input. It's greatly appreciated. I have an email into Bangkok Hospital HH and will contact Saint Louis Hospital. Currently, I am waiting for an appointment verification for Bumrungrad. My total package with some extra tests, diabetes and Vitamin D, will cost about 12k Baht. If the others are significantly cheaper I'll go to one if them.

hhfarong, did that price include a stress test? My last figure does not. It's 3900 Baht extra for that. I'm 42 years old, 15 lbs overweight, and have smoked for 6 years. However, I do play basketball regularly. I'm not positive that I need one. Money isn't a huge concern. I just don't want to get something I don't need. Your opinion?

my doctor told me your EKG will determine if you need a stress test. So maybe you shouldn't package.
