I've found that the cost of quality (name brand) glasses are about the same as I paid in the U.S. so I would expect them to be the same as in the U.K.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

I bought some designer specs last week at Top Charoen. They were 'Crocodile' brand.
Originally sunglasses, had the eye test and they ordered the lenses. Waited a couple of days for delivery.
3,900 baht and you get to keep the sun lenses.

...I doubt it. If they're the same price in Thailand as they are in the US then they're most likely cheaper than they are in the UK!

The cost of glasses varies greatly due to what you need as it does anywhere else. I suspect the 3900 baht ones mentioned a couple of posts up were for single vision clear lenses. I wanted to get "name brand" frames at the same place mentioned but wanted graduated or lineless bifocals. Another pair I wanted lenses that change color with the light. Both of those were between 5000 and 6000 baht. That was many years ago. I assume they would be more now.

I bought a pair of name brand glasses at top chareon market village last month,i needed for long sightedness(i think is the term)i had the eyetest there, picked what frame i liked, and came back a day later, cost 6000bht.
I only wear them for driving, not reading.Frames range from about 3000bht upwards.I think they charged me more for scratchproof glass.probably a gimmick.

They go cheaper than that if you're on a budget. About two months ago I had the lenses changed in my reading glasses in Top Charoen and I decided I could do with a spare pair in case of loss or damage. I asked for a cheap frame and they found me one for 1700 bt. I ended up paying about 4,000 bt for two sets of lenses and one frame.

on the first floor near tescos they also sell cheap glasses for 150bht,i found them useful as a back up pair, but the frames tend to snap if you aren't gentle with them.

Re: Buying glasses in Hua Hin - price comparison ?

Post by Scout »

Over the last 5 years I’ve bought several pair of progressive lens glasses, always from Top Charoen, usually at Market Village, with good results. I’ve noticed there are eyeglass shops other than Top Charoen at Market Village and other places in town. I’m going to need a new pair soon and I’m wondering if I might get a better price at one of these other companies. Has anyone compared prices between Top Charoen and other companies and if so what did you find ?

changed mine about 4 months ago, shopped around first, went to several different shops at market village, on the petchkasem road and Cha Am to finally get them at Top Charoen where they were a lot cheaper for the same quality as anywhere else

Is Top Charoen good for exams? It's been a few years and I am due.

My wife had her eyes tested at Top Charoen, a few years ago though, and was not happy wih her new glasses. She visited Dr. Pairat Eye Clinic for a new test, got her glasses there, and has been very happy with them.
Dr. Pairat also do surgery for cataract (spelling)!
