Thai language word game
Thai language word game
Okay, lets try and exhaust our knowledge of us who can speak Thai here, how many words can we post that have 'kii' in them. I will start.
Kii-loom (to forget, forgotten)

Re: Word Game
I think that needs a little explanation. I assume you mean
kee (ขี้) a prefix that indicates the following adjective is a negative quality of the person being referred to.
luem = to forget
So kee luem (ขี้ลืม) refers to a person who easily and/or frequently forgets.
mao = drunk
kee mao (ขี้เมา) refers to a habitually drunk, an alcoholic
So for those who frequent the bars do not worry if they talk about you and you hear them say you are mao (can happen once in a while). Start worrying as soon as you hear them say you are kee mao.

Re: Word Game
Yes pretty bad with typing phonetics. I have also found that the phoentics used differ from person to person who I have come across anyway. At my language school in the text book it is 'kii' But we shall go with 'kee' anyway. I have learned some just by speaking with Thai people, so the phonetics may be different from what others consider.

Re: Word Game
All learning books, language schools and dictionaries have their own transliteration system. As soon as you can read Thai that obstacle is dealt with.
Last one from me:
kee nieow (ขี้เหนียว) = to be stingy

Re: Word Game
If you have time Roel, write the kee-niell meaning sticky rice so we can see the comparison in pronunciation. PeteRoel wrote:All learning books, language schools and dictionaries have their own transliteration system. As soon as you can read Thai that obstacle is dealt with.

Re: Thai language word game
There's no comparison, Pete - rice is 'kao' (as in cow).
This is the way
Re: Thai language word game
Kee tak. Never heard that one. I suggest to use only tong ruang ท้องร่วง (diarrhea) in the pharmacy.
Kendo do you have any idea how you spell that in Thai? And if not, how it is pronounced: tek, taak or taek?
prcscct do you mean khaao nieow (ข้าวเหนียว)?

Yes, that's it. If you say it fast it still sounds like kee nieow. I've heard kee dak before meaning some kind of explosive reaction. PeteRoel wrote:Kee tak. Never heard that one. I suggest to use only tong ruang ท้องร่วง (diarrhea) in the pharmacy.

kee fon - dirt of some kind
I guess he meant 'kao neow' as it has been said, the sticky rice. Gotta love kao neow, ma-muang and gatti!

Re: Thai language word game
I think good to mention that kee simply means "waste". As example you can have "kee who" meaning ear wax, kee chamook meaning nose dirt, and I guess even kee sadoo meaning lint in your navel. Pete
