Re: Nationality breakdown of farangs studying Thai
How does this actually tie up with the breakdown of nationalities resident in Hua Hin?

Wish we knew. Have seen 3 different list of expats in Hua Hin... and they all vary quite a bit. One had more UK than German whilst another had the opposite.pharvey wrote:How does this actually tie up with the breakdown of nationalities resident in Hua Hin?

Thanks - I saw the 21 207, and guessed it had something to do with the total numbers, but couldn't actually decipher the meaning. Clarification appreciatedbapak wrote:It is on the bottom the list.. 207 students from 21 countries.Big Boy wrote:How many students were taught during that year?

I remember 10 years ago there were heaps of Germans in HH,- tourists & ex-pat, now they seemed to have occupied various islands down south and the Skandi-population moved in.

All are on B or O in its many varities (long stay). Does not include tourists. Tourists are in a different category.bunthom wrote:are all of your students residents, or do these figures include visitors who study Thai language?

Re: Nationality breakdown of farangs studying Thai
I've not been around as long as usual suspect (3 years or so) but have also noticed something of a shift from German to Skandi in HH.
Therefore the thing I find interesting about the numbers is the relatively small combined number of Skandis - 35 if you include Danes (really I am thinking mostly of the large numbers of Norwegians and Swedes I seem to encounter) signing up for longer courses. Perhaps they tend to be holiday makers / tourists more frequently than residents?
Several Germans I have met (3 or 4) have learned quite a lot of Thai before coming here, using the Volkshochschule at home. Going back to Poomsan-Becker 1 would be something they'd only be likely to do if they were on the ED visa game, so in any case, you might expect their numbers to underrepresent the population.
