Where to take a troublesome soi dog?
Where to take a troublesome soi dog?
Hi all,
Our Soi has went from 2 dogs to 11 in one year...
As much as we are all dog lovers here it is becoming an issue
especially when we have guest staying...the noise sometimes
We are all doing our part now to relocate half of them too good homes......
One of our thai dogs 'Fanta' has started to go a bit bonkers....
The last few months she has been causing trouble...
Barking like mad at the neighbours dogs.....when there locked up
Trying to bite the Mailman and waterman etc
you turn an eye and she killing neighbours chickens....
This has caused said thai chicken owner to start
leaving poisoned meat around....
The other dogs are fine.....
but i fear some of our dogs are going to be brown bread because of one bad egg!
Is there somewhere i could take her... temple i dont know ?
need shot of her asap .....
hell of a guard dog mind and great with my son....
Any help would be great......
Regards to all......
Cheers
Fach

Re: Where to take a troublesome soi dog?
I feel for you Fach, because of your dilemma. You obviously have some affection for her, but she is causing massive problems.
Do you live in Hua Hin? A friend of mine took a stray dog to the temple on the Pala U road (up the hill, round the bend at the top, and it's on the left-hand side). He gave the temple a large bag of dog food, along with the dog. She'll hopefully be looked after there, and fit in with a pack of dogs. Then you have to just forget about her.
It sounds rather harsh, but (being a dog lover myself) I feel it's your best option.
Good luck,
VS

Not harsh at all, given the alternatives.Vital Spark wrote: A friend of mine took a stray dog to the temple on the Pala U road (up the hill, round the bend at the top, and it's on the left-hand side). VS - are you sure you don't mean the temple by the Elephant Village - i.e. on the right-hand side? I thought that's where the dog care place is?
Fach - speak to your neighbours and let them know you're aware of the problem and are sorting it out.
This is the way
Re: Where to take a troublesome soi dog?
Hi VS....yeah its a dilemma...
She is the mother of our pups and generally ok
but the issues are becoming worse....
as much as we want to keep her the decision is for the greater good.
Where in Cha am.....dont think there is anywhere here to take her.
Think the temple your talking of ......is the answer....
not alot of options for a 2 year old mid sized thai dog it seems
Cheers
DM......i agree
We have spoke to the neighbours as another chicken bit the bullet 2 nights ago...
the fingers are pointing at the said dog....he's not a happy bunny.....
but least were going to do something....
Wish there was a home for her........but have to act fast...
Thanks for the replies
Cheers

Re: Where to take a troublesome soi dog?
Fach.....I think VS has given you the best advice, although I'm not sure the monks actually approve of people dumping dogs on their hands.
You're actually quite lucky that your neighbor sees the dog as a soi dog rather than seeing it as your dog, or else you would be paying for all those chickens, and if a big cock gets killed, you'd be surprised just how quickly that dead cock becomes one the greatest fighting cock this country has ever seen, and now it's dead, and then you could find yourself having to pay thousands of baht in compensation, and, the law/police would be there to ensure you did.
Thais generally see chickens as being more valuable than dogs. I know because we keep some chickens, and the in-laws really value them. They can be eaten and/or sold, whereas a dog is just a noisy nuisance. There's a soi dog that hangs around here that's killed at least 14 of our chickens, but the in-laws only know of him killing 3, and even, I had to stop my FIL from putting down poisoned meat.
It also doesn't help when neighbors put food down for dogs, since that encourages them to hang around, and it also attracts others. There's a guy in Natural Hill who stops his car outside our place and his wife puts left over food down for the soi dogs. Not a bad gesture, but then we end up with bits of silver foil everywhere. Why not feed the dogs outside their own place?
Anyway, good luck.

Don't try to impress me with your manner of dress cos a monkey himself is a monkey no less - cold fact

Hi Takiap ...
cheers for the reply.....and insight in the situation...
the neighbour is actually a policeman as well....
the missus has spend alot of time talking to his girlfriend to explain what we are doing....
Last week i caught 'fanta' red handed in the chicken cage with male chicken in her jaws...
(had to be careful there ) .......Hence the asap reason for having to letting her go....
Cheers

Re: Where to take a troublesome soi dog?
I'm stuck with a damn noisy Soi-dog that has been brought specially to bark and growl at anyone 'new' in our small Soi..!!
The man half-way down our Soi keeps 'singing birds' and this is his way of keeping theives away I guess..Oh that damn animal is the bain of my life..but I'm unable to do much..it barks ALL night long!!
Where to take a troublesome soi dog??..how about we go halves on chartering a boat..take them about 3 miles out to sea!!

Re: Where to take a troublesome soi dog?
Muzzle (250B) to stop the chicken killer and a trip to the veterinary hospital just past Banyan towards Pranburi for Spay/Neuter no more pups (approx 500B).

Re: Where to take a troublesome soi dog?
Shouldn't you have been keeping them in all the time?
You complain about other peoples dogs and let yours roam free!

You only live once.
Re: Where to take a troublesome soi dog?
There should be no, repeat NO, dogs in the sois without a leash..
Dogs should only be let loose in assigned areas or in their fenced yards.
As far as I am concerned, stray dogs represent a potential danger and are consequently fair game. Period.
