Adopting a dog

My Hubby and I are moving over to Hua Hin in the VERY near future and would like to adopt a dog. Does anybody know where we could go? I've tried to find out if there are any rescue shelters but there doesn't seem to be anything in HH

Stray dogs are very common in Thailand and the usual way of adopting one is to either simply start feeding one that you want to adopt in your street (generally speaking any dog without a collar is a stray) or by asking around for anyone who has any puppies going spare.
If that sounds simplistic it's because adopting a dog in Thailand is a very simple process!

We have 3 dogs who adopted us, i.e. we fed them so they stayed. We realised that two is more than enough and gave one to my wife's sister who has many dogs and lives about 10 kilometres away.

Unfortunately, he doesn't like it there, or likes our chicken better, so he keeps coming back. When the three dogs are together they think they are the mafia, only two of them and they are fairly timid so really one has to go.

If anybody wants a good loyal dog, then we have one available and will take him back if you decide you don't want him. I think he is best suited to being somebody's only dog as seems very content with his own company.

Trust me, you won't have any problem find a dog. In fact, you could adopt a million of them and the streets would still be full of them.

In the same position as Ken regarding dogs adopting us. I did not want them, 2 just arrived and one was basically dumped on us. They earn their food though. No more dogs from the street chewing up the rubbish and fighting and if a stranger comes anywhere near the house they go berserk so they can stay.

As people have said - its no problem at all. The dogs adopt you! But please make sure that when you have been adopted you get your dog vaccinated (for rabies) so he has the requisite tag, and castrated if he's a street mutt.

Someone dumped three really cute, really friendly puppies in front of our house today. One has already been adopted by some passing Thais, but fearing something would happen to the other two overnight, they are in our yard at the moment, but we are having to keep them separated from our older dogs who are very territorial and do not like the intrusion.

If anyone is interested in adopting a (guessing 3 month old) puppy or two, both males, please let me know. One is a tan or light brown solid color and the other is a brown and white (like an Indian painted pony) color. As I said they are very friendly and ran to us immediately when we went out to look at them. I'm sure they are used to people in their short lives but whoever had them decided to dump them on the side of the road.

It's too dark to take them now but tomorrow I'll post photos.

Yes, save the fluffy bunnies etc OP......but you have no idea how many problems these things make....from spreading disease and problems to noise pollution from people that keep them on their property and don't care for them, as they work too much, because it's fashionable and the owner believes that it makes them appear hi-class etc.

30% of the dogs are fine...but the rest should be 'controlled' with extreme prejudice or neutered out of pity and thus controlling a problem that is perpetuated by irresponsible owners, ie Thais and the silly beliefs that end up with children being attacked on a regular basis because no-one will do the decent thing and control the problem animals.

There is no problem with the efforts of the responsible advocates on this forum for this subject......problem is that they are all foreigners....it's the locals that perpetuate the problem and don't give fcuk, the temples being one of the worse offenders.

Why bother adopting a dog when you should really put it out of it's snarling misery....pap...pap...pap...pap... ,. You must be new to Thailand?

Spitfire, Soi dogs make wonderful pets when raised from puppies around people. I've had two for almost seven years and have found homes for several more and everybody, owners and pets alike have been happy together. These were obviously dumped as even in their short lives they have learned to love people. Soi dogs make excellent guard dogs too as they are very loyal and will make a lot of noise when someone tries to enter your property once they consider it their home.

The OP of this thread wanted to adopt a dog and I'm sure there are a few others out there that don't hate them.

Anyway, here is a photo if anyone would like to adopt one or both, just PM me. It is not the best pic as it's not easy to take photos of two active puppies when they either won't sit still or they insist on running to the photographer's feet. I had to catch them looking into the house right after the missus went in to get them still enough.

There's three of them again. The black one with a brown face that I thought was picked up by a Thai on a motorbike must have just temporarily gotten separated from the others. Anyway, he showed back up today at our gate. The missus took them to the vet, got their shots and any medicines they needed but the vet said there were very healthy puppies.
