What is your average electricity bill?

Post by Siani »

Can anyone tell me (approx) how much their average monthly electric bill is please? Please can members answer who have a pool, no dishwasher, washing machine, and use gas for cooking. The agent has just told me that the months bill is 4000 baht which seems high. We only have aircon on low in one bedroom at night and use fans in the day when home. Thanks

5000 to 6000 a month with pool, well, washing machine, dishwasher etc etc so your bill seems rather high but could be related to your pool problems???

One question is how long per 24 hour period are you running the pool filter? I've found that 6 1/2 hours a day is more than enough for a 10 x 7 meter pool. 3 in the morning and 3 1/2 in the late afternoon/evening. Also, if it's an old motor it will use more juice. Pete

We run the pool for about 7 hours, not sure how old, probably about 5 years. There has been a lot of problem with it though. The bill is probably correct, just seems a lot :o Thanks for info :)

The other thing is that this past month has been one of the hottest I remember in a while, especially yesterday when I barely made it through 18 holes of golf and had to drink a 6 liter bottle of water between the finish and bedtime to replace lost fluids.

Your aircon, even if used only in one room can be double the electricity in a hot time like this as the compressor is always running trying to keep up to get the temp to the level set on the thermostat. I have no pool but I do have 2 water features with pumps and the other appliances you mentioned, but my bill jumped from 7k to over 10k from last month to this month only because of the struggling aircon (use only 1 at a time).
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Not sure what you mean by this , Pete? An electric motor is not like a car engine that will start to lose efficiency as it wears out, especially if not serviced properly.
The only wearing part in an electric motor the would cause it to draw more current are the bearings, but by the time that is noticeable it will be making a great deal of noise.

The pump itself will lose efficiency over a period of time, but as this is usually associated with wear on the impeller, the load will actually reduce on the motor and it will tend to draw less current. If the load were to increase due to a blocked filter etc., then the current will go up.

The number of hours that you need to run a pool pump depends on a few things, but around 6 hours a day should be sufficient. I would suggest that it would be worth while checking just what is set on the timer, as Somchai has been known to increase the running time in the belief that it will cure pool chemistry problems.

Pool and little aircon use. Fans running all night to drown out the yapping dogs. Quite a few lights, though since it's a big house. 4000 without pool. 5-6000 with.
