Synthetic Ice Rink - would be great for Hua Hin!

Post by bigideas »

For anyone looking for a great business idea, this has got to be a winner!

A friend of mine has set one up in Nakhon Ratchasima and it is doing so well that he's also setting up a synthetic ski run.

Here's a link just to give you an idea of prices etc. I don't have pots of money myself but I bet a few people coming together could make it work. I'd certainly go in for 50-100,000bt.

Anyone got any thoughts on this.

Do old people have fewer or greater number of broken hips on synthetic ice than the natural stuff?

Interesting product. Commercial 1/2" thickness price is not indicated but a rough calculation you could probably purchase commercial grade for an 80' x 40' rink for around 50,000-60,000 USD plus shipping. All the other stuff needed to make it an attractive venue, not including land, you could probably be in business for around 5 million baht. Pete

Let me know how close I was, at least on the size/commercial product itself. :) Pete

Don't forget to add import tax. maybe + 30% and VAT
If serious I would look at suppliers from China.I would be surprised if it was not manufactured there.

I can see Thais going once. A roller rink might be a better idea.

Super-Glide Heavy Duty Synthetic Ice ½”-

Retail Prices:
Super-Glide Heavy Duty: $450.00 per panel
Panel Size: 4’ x 8’ x 0.5”; 78 lbs (121.9 cm x 243.8 cm x 1.27cm; 35.38kg)

Underlying membrane 8’ x 4’ (outdoor rinks and full-size indoor rinks) - $42.00 per panel

That makes an 80X40 rink = 45,000 USD = 1.4m ThBt

But I would suggest a 40X50 foot rink would surfice for kids and teens. Special rates for schools and big business sponsors. A school like Somtawin could jump at the chance of making money and flexing their muscles in Hua Hin... surely!
I would also suggest local manufacturers in Asia for better deals.

I'd be prepared to give you the precise location in about a weeks time when I see him again. May I ask, the reason for your rather suspicious curiosity?
