Is Mercy House Orphanage in HH associated with Father Joseph Maier's Mercy Centre in Bangkok? Pete

Just to confirm what Sealcat has said: we had a very productive meeting yesterday with the aim of consolidating and coordinating the various ways of helping the kids at Mercy House.

With regard to Sealcat's initiative on raising the money the kids need for food at school on a daily basis, I am currently holding a total of THB 6,500 from 2 donors, 1 of whom is Bluezephyr, who was the OP of this thread, incidentally. He also donated clothes and sweets/chocolate, which we have already delivered.

He also gave me THB 5,000 to spend on food for the orphanage.
I'm pretty sure he won't mind his contribution being used to fund their school food, so I propose putting his money to that use.
Many thanks to Tony for his continued interest and generosity and for being a very nice, genuine guy.

We also had a visit from an American couple, who gave us THB 1,500 to help the kids - hence the total of THB 6,500.

I have spoken to my business partner and we will top up this amount to a total of THB 25,000 - that means we're a good way down the road to reaching the 100,000 target.

We will, of course, still be continuing other ways of helping the orphanage and be prepared to pick up and deliver non-cash donations direct and/or take the donors to visit the kids themselves.

There really couldn't be a better cause!!

Mercy House Orphanage

Post by Sealcat »

Hi All

Friends of ours in Australia who visit Thailand every year for their family holiday have donated 10,000bht. With Barry's very generous donation, we are very, very close to our initial target... anyone else able to give it a gentle nudge?

Congratulations to all who are working so hard for this cause.
I would like to donate $200 AUD but the costs to transfer this to a bank in Thailand will be about $35 at this end.
Barry, if you or any other trustworthy member has a credit card facility I will PM you my credit card details.
Is it worth setting up Mercy House to accept credit card donations?

Hi Ozuncle... if Barry cannot do the credit card transfer, why not send the 200 less the transfer fee and I will cover the shortfall

Many thanks to Aussie Mark and ozuncle for their donation offers.

Aussie Mark, you're quite welcome to drop off the donation at our office in central Hua Hin or at our marina in Paknampran when you come - we'll make sure there's a cold beer waiting for you wherever you choose

We don't have a credit card facility as yet but we do hope to have shortly.

Hi redzonerocker:
I do have a personal PayPal account and would be happy to accept donations through it on behalf of Mercy House.

Bluezephyr:
Great to hear from you again and, yes, I'm sure the chocolate eggs will be received with just as much joy the 2nd time round. :thumb:

Thank you all very much for your support :D

Hi moja and Aussie Mark

We're actually opening the HH office sometime next week.

Directions to Hua Hin office:
Go towards the Fishing Pier and turn right at the Buffalo Tavern.
Walk approx. 200m and we're on the left directly opposite the Pinnochio ice cream parlour, which is next to the "Monsoon".
Our place is called Crepes&Cruises and there are lots of boat signs at the front.

Directions to Mermaid Cruises marina at Paknampran:
Drive south from Hua Hin over the flyover.
Pass the turning to Kao Tao (soi 101) and continue on past a ready-mix concrete plant on the left and then turn left (there's an overhead sign there to Pak Nam Pran).
Go over the railway line and then fork right.
Continue approx. 5 km, then turn left (there is no left turn possible before this).
Drive 500 metres, then turn left again.
Continue approx. 3 km, passing the old marina on your right.
Turn right into our place immediately after the S bend.
