Fire at large Hua Hin massage parlour

A large fire has significantly damaged the large massage parlour on the corner of Soi 96 and Petchkasem Road tonight. No further information is known yet.

I had a grandstand view! First noticed it as I was settling down to watch some live streaming of Chelsea's game. At one stage I thought we'd have to pack up and go and my car was nearby as well. I took a few pics before switching to video which hopefully will be my first effort on youtube, which I'll sort out in the morning.

Very impressed with the bravery of the firemen, some just in shorts and T-shirts who were precariously close to the action (on video). A lot of smoke was coming from the larger white building and occasionally you could see a flicker of fire in a couple of the windows, but by and large they seemed to contain that. I was impressed by the fire brigade, I thought they did a good job and they also had to find a fresh source of water when they ran dry, locals seemed to help with that.

Here's the few pics I took excuse quality). It got a lot worse after these pics, with flames shooting up to the top of the white building, before they got it all under control:

Still no word of casualties at the moment. It has been on Thai news this morning, but they said nothing, so I assume all good.

My daughter, who lives very close to the scene, and was in fear of her own home last night, has said there were no casualties .

I drove past it earlier. The left hand, front wing seems to have suffered a lot of damage. A lot of, what looked like, investigators on the scene.

Those wooden sticks may have been the cause but doubt the stones and any rubber products were a contributory factor

Fire at Hua Hin massage spa

A fire caused severe damage to a two-storey building used by Ruan Kaew Massage and Spa, which provides Thai-style massage, in Hua Hin district late on Sunday night.

Pol Maj Naripanat Noojui, a duty officer at Hua Hin police station, said fire engines from Hua Hin Municipality and rescuers rushed to the building in Soi Hua Hin 96 on Phetkasem Road shortly after the fire was reported about 11pm.

The fire was burning on the second floor of the building, which houses massage and spa rooms. It was brought under control in about two hours.

Shop owner Chairat Manomaiwiboon said Ruan Kaew Massage and Spa had been open for nearly 30 years, providing services mainly for tourists travelling in tour groups.

The shop was closed over the weekend. The cause of the fire is being investigated. The full extent of the damage was still being assessed.

Oops, sorry, I didn't realise I had posted that! Here's the aftermath of the fire. If I could work out whether I have published my vid on youtube or not, I'd post that here too - but I can't find it!!!

I'm really surprised, in view of the intensity of the fire, how it appears to have caused only very 'localised damage'. Even the glass window at the front of the building where the fire was remains intact, albeit cracked.
