B700m park to honour Thai kings in Hua Hin
The army will build a grand park in Hua Hin district of Prachuap Khiri Kan to honour all Thai kings.
Army deputy spokesperson Sirichan Ngathong said on Wednesday that army commander-in-chief Udomdej Sitabutr intended the park to demonstrate the people's loyalty to the royal institution. It will be located on 222 rai of land in an army compound near the Klai Kangwon Palace.
His Majesty the King has approved the project and named the park Ratchapakdi Park which meant the park that was created with loyalty to the monarch, Col Sirichan said.
The park would also function as a venue for important ceremonies of the army and other agencies and be a tourist destination and place for public education on Thai history, she said.
In the compound, there will be 13.9-metre-tall bronze statues of seven former kings -- King Ramkhamhaeng the Great, King Naresuan the Great, King Narai the Great, King Taksin the Great, King Buddha Yodfa Chulalok the Great, King Mongkut and King Chulalongkorn.
There will also be a 91-rai yard for important ceremonies of the army and other agencies and a museum and exhibition centre under the kings' statues to display the profiles and contributions of all former Thai kings.
The remaining 126 rai will be for landscape gardening and public utilities.
The park cost was estimated at about 700 million baht and the army would raise donations to pay it, Col Sirichan said.
The army was receiving donations via its welfare fund account number 077-1-07474-7 at TMB bank.

I am really looking forward to this ( if its done correctly ) HH, at the moment dosen't have a decent sized park.
Only the small one at sip gow lie ( i think thats how the Thai's call it ) it sounds like the new one will be built in the same area .
It will be great to have somewhere to take the kids to run around
700 million sounds a lot ! lets hope it dosent take to long to build it

^ I'm guessing it will take a good long while to build it - if ever. For every baht that comes in another baht might well end up in someone's pocket. They are looking for donations to do this and the Army is not very good at accountability.

This will be built for Thais, not foreigners. It will be a new kind of brainwashing.

700mill..??? Wow..the 'Sea Pines' golf course is on army land is it not...wonder how much that cost..?
IMO the army could muster 100's of it's personel & make this area into the H.H. park under it's own budget.
Maybe make it like Lumpini..a walkway, pond/lake, cycle track..& some monitor lizards even..?

Re: B700m park to honour Thai kings in Hua Hin
Can anyone confirm if this new park is going to be on the land adjacent to the 'Somdet Phra Suriyothai Army Camp' on the opposite side of the road from 'Sea Pine Golf Course', if it is, its well underway. a large area of land has been cleared and roads around the area look to be getting a major makeover. There is also a large concrete structure under construction with 7 large plinths possibly for the 7 kings statues.
Although the original article in the 'Bangkok Post', states 'It will be located on 222 rai of land in an army compound near the Klai Kangwon Palace', I'm sure this is going to be the park.

126 Rai = 50 acre = 202000 square meters. Should be possible for a good walk /run area!

I think 3 from left was the one that was broken in the neck area. Appears they have fixed it very quickly.
