Two homemade bombs explode in front of Siam Paragon
February 1, 2015 11:05 pm

Two homemade bombs exploded in front of the Siam Paragon shopping mall Sunday night, police said. No one was injured.

The BTS suspended its skytrain services at the Siam Station at 8:10 pm after the explosion occurred under the connecting way linking the mall and the Siam station. The service resumed at 8:38 pm.

Police said the bombs were planned behind a power transformer.

Post by Dr Mike »

Strange, very amateurish, create a scare but not much damage. A trial run? Incompetence? Start of continuing violence?

My gf just read another Thai newspaper this morning and she said it was not a bomb just transformers blowing up, who knows, could be either.

Ok apparently the online newspaper updated it's article now to there being a bomb.

My husband and his daughter were going to Siam Paragon when the bombs went off and he was amazed that people were rushing to the site to take photos! How stupid can you get. Luckily they were uninjured but very shook up, especially his daughter who has just spent two weeks I HH and loved every minute of it. The natural reaction of friends in the UK was to get out of Thailand asap which is knee jerk but natural reaction. Wonder how many potential tourists have been put off by this incident?
Not good.

yes set one bomb off and a second bomb is delayed until first responders have arrived.

but these were very close together in timing.

you can hear the second bomb go off in the youtube video.

i am thinking they wanted to take out the transformer to cause a local power failure at the mall.
I really like this forum because there are no personal attacks. All the members contribute in a positive way to my posts.

I'm afraid that this is the usual byproduct of suppressing all legitimate political activity, I'm only surprised it took so long to emerge. Now what will probably happen is that the junta will use it as an excuse to delay elections and retain power!

I recently read an analysis of the reduced effectiveness over time of the 'second bomb' technique. One scenario predicted was a second, small bomb shortly after the first one, then later a BIG third bomb.

Rubbish!

The IRA did not need the excuse of a lack of legitimate political activity, nor the recent terrorist acts in France.

Perhaps it is some of the same crowd who were throwing hand grenades and shooting into demonstrators last year when they were participating in a legal political activity?

Don't make excuses for terrorists, just destroy them!

I wasn't making excuses, I was just stating that it was an inevitable and predictable outcome of the juntas present course of action.

Is this present government really as bad as the last two people in power!
And yes they certainly were in POWER, and they acted like that as well.
As Dundrillin says, about their record of
legitimate political government, bought and paid for votes, is that any way to
have a democratic government? I am glad that the present PM has respect for
the King and royal family, and seems to be proud of his country.
I thought that Burma was ran by a junta, as it certainly was not a bunch
in power there that cared for the people.
I know there are those on the forum who think that the voting is the way
to have a government in power, but as I said, if your vote was paid for,
just how democratic is that?
Who ever set off these bombs, were possible different people than
some in Thailand may be thinking of.
Have any of you seen how the nut jobs who call them selves, ISIL,
Taliban , or Boku Haram, operate? Could it be that one of them wanna be's
practised a little boom in Bangkok to practise their skills?
It sure would not surprise me!
Just saying, Think outside the sand box.

pictures of it.

Presumably there is a reason why the present government has so many laws restricting what people are allowed to say about them, the restrictions on free speech aren't there to stop people from lauding their praises for doing such a good job on human rights and running the economy!
