No recovery in sinking number of Chinese tourists seen till 2019
A boat disaster near Phuket Island that killed 47 Chinese last month is significantly cutting arrival numbers from China, though the Thai tourism industry is hopeful the decline will be stemmed by late this year.

The July 5 capsizing of the Phoenix was Thailand's worst tourist-related disaster in years. China is the kingdom’s biggest source of visitors, and last year accounted for nearly one-third of the record 35.38 million arrivals.

During July, Chinese arrivals fell 0.9% from a year earlier, the first drop since the start of 2017, when the government was cracking down on cheap tour packages from China.

The tourism ministry expects a bigger decline of 14.3% for August.

And the ministry cut its target for Chinese arrivals in July-December by 669,000, or 11.5%, to 5.15 million.

They don't have to take a boat ride.

If you want to put a Chinese person in their place for bad behaviour say “nee sham ba lao”.
It means you are a village person or peasant. It usually works!

If Thailand wants to know where all the Chinese tourists have gone, they need to check out a chippie in Yorkshire!

Before I left the UK many years ago, the Chinese were taking over many of the fish and chip shops and although I hate to admit it, they were better at it than most of the English run ones.

Not where I lived in SW London they weren't. The nearest one to me, which was about 100 yards away and became a chinese takeaway as well, was disgusting. The batter was really greasy. I stopped using it and then a few months later it was shut down by the local Council. Another one nearby was awful as well and in the end I would drive about 3 miles to a great place, with the added bonus that they also sold 'Rock'!

I lived in Fleet and the 'Chinese fish and chip shops' were just that. They copied and improved. A long time ago though. Our own people may have had the kick up the a**e and competed.

So you're a fan of shark 'rock'? I've often wondered whether it would have the same attraction if it was sold under it's real name. i.e. dogfish (shark)

I have been reading a lot of material about the fate of ex-pat residents retired in Spain after Brexit. Mingled in that are many comments about the yobo British tourists in Spain--the comments are as hostile as any in this thread.

I was making the point that it is not just Chinese that are ugly tourists. You have added a similar opinion of the French .It gives the topic some balance.
