Actually Thais and Foreigners do eat dog in Hua Hin although they may not know it. There is a popular BBQ restaurant on Pala u Road opposite a blue and white school that has been closed down 3 time for serving dog meat as beef.

I must apologise. In my last post I forgot to put a warning on the video. Please DO NOT watch it if you have a weak stomach. It's easily the worst dog slaughtering video that there is on the web (courtesy of Thailand - the country that does no such thing according to Major Bloodnok). Narrated by an educated Thai lady (fair play to her for standing up to show the world what truly barbaric acts her fellow countrymen are up to) it is not nice to watch at all.

I was just trying to prove a point.

If the mods would be so kind as to add a, 'WARNING: EXTREMELY GRAPHIC CONTENT', before the video I'd much appreciate it.

If only more Thais knew anything about Buddhism they would stop this however most Thais know nothing about Buddhism, they follow it purely because they have been forced to since birth.

I chuckled when I read the list this morning and thought much the same as Pharvey. Then I read it again and figured that at least 7 of GLC's initial points apply to many European countries too. Especially that there are more beautiful women in Cambodia.

Then the rapid and predictable spiral into puppy snuff made it all a bit too much. As usual.

14: Rubbish is everywhere (especially plastic). The rivers are used as bins, the roadsides are used as bins and the bins are... well if you can find one they are used as bins.





15: Thailand has a huge gun culture. Some statistics say Thailand is the worst country for gun related crime. Those statistic are 'predictive' and based on the many, many unreported incidents that happen.



16: If you are planning to have a nice lie down on the beach... think again! You may come a cropper to the money grabbing sunbed touts.

GLC while some items you mention are questionable I do agree with the majority, Thailand is definitely not the Land of Smiles it is made out to be, except when they want to get money from you. LOS is a sham.

I am presently working in Africa where the people are extremely poor yet one does not see many of the negative things you mention, there is little if any rubbish, no plastic bags, no weapons in private hands well maybe some, definitely no 14, 15, 16. Of course there is no democracy but who gives a toss about democracy. Thailand has a lot to learn.

This is one of the reasons I never stay in Thailand for too long.

The rubbish in Thailand is one of my biggest niggles about the place (second only to dogs not raised properly and barking all hours of the day). The country is just filthy! I used to live on a prawn farm in Samut Sakhon. One day, I decided I'd clean Grandpa's place of all the clutter around the house. Armed with bin bags, I asked him if he could start the ol' boat up so we could take the bags to the temple bins downstream.

"Just throw them in the river", was his reply.

On questioning the girlfriend, I found out that this is 'the norm' for people living by a river.

Number 17: Taxi/tuk tuk drivers and (especially) motorbike taxis are often drunk and/or high on methamphetamine.
