Well said GLC
Re: Bringing Back the Banned
Who's talking of censorship? I don't think anyone got banned because of the subject matter.Deep Blue wrote:Who decides what’s offensive, you, me, the government, the queen - or why not ignore it or let the marketplace of ideas purge it. Censorship is for cowards.
Also, I think there's a right and a wrong way of making your point, just having an awareness of what could be deemed offensive to others is generally a good start when trying to get a point across. For example, you might have noticed, or possibly not, that your particular way of getting your point across has already alienated others and therefore has hampered the effectiveness of what you are trying to say. Hurling insults usually has that effect. Try a different approach, it may help.

The thread was moved to Foo as it has descended into a load of off-topic rambling.GLCQuantum wrote:So Mods, as it stands posters want the banned brought back. What are your thoughts on this?
If those that were banned wish to return we'll certainly consider it as we do with all things. However it is highly unlikely that the tiny minority that couldn't abide by our simple rules, spammed us, freeloaded, or were abusive towards us even read this website any longer.

Re: Bringing Back the Banned
It would seem that Deep Blue has found a subject matter that suits his agenda. Insulting the British, the Queen, other folks religious beliefs and anyone who contradicts him.
Re: Bringing Back the Banned
I don't care about the banned (in fact if I had the power I can think of a couple more I would ban ), but I do miss Super Joe and Baa Baa. Hope neither came to a bad end!
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

As an uncouth Murican, it is my honor to converse with a proper posh English gentleman of obvious high birth - thanks again for stooping down in replying to this thread, must be like bathing with untouchables in India.Terry wrote:I don't normally get involved in this type of thread - but put simply.............
Mr. Blue has missed the point.
It would not matter if this forum were owned by a bloody Martian - The fact is, it is operated and run in THAILAND and therefore has to abide by the Thai Laws that govern it.
Mr. Blue - I suggest you acquaint yourself with the basic requirements of these laws before you start ranting about censorship.
Oh yes - I am a Brit. OK?
Re: Bringing Back the Banned
Sorry, reality check time - not the UK’s fault, you need more Jews and now that genius John Cleese moved to LA, you’ve lost 90% of the UK’s humor.GLCQuantum wrote:Now now, you are stepping over the line there. There's banter and there's downright nastiness. I may just roll up one's sleeves and offer you outside for a gentlemanly chinwag if you're not careful.English humor has always sucked.
Re: Bringing Back the Banned
I tried to ascertain Mr. Plum transgression by searching his name and found a thread about a British girl’s rape. unfortunately his offending remarks were deleted, (lots of ‘don’t feed the trolls’) so I have no idea - my guess is, from that and recent Brit comments directed at me, anything British here is touchy. Please discern the difference between poking fun and an insult - the semantics could not have changed to that degree in 240 years, wait, I always get this confused, is it 239 (signing of the D.O.I.) or 234 years (when Cornwallis wet his pants and surrendered)? Thoughts anyone. Lol.caller wrote:Who's talking of censorship? Oh please c’mon - I wasn’t insulting religion, I was trying to stick a dagger into it’s heart and twist it. I love the British - Darwin, Hitchens, Dawkins, my idols.arcadianagain wrote:It would seem that Deep Blue has found a subject matter that suits his agenda. So you only like opinions that agree with yours. That’s sad dude.hhfarang wrote:I don't care about the banned (in fact if I had the power I can think of a couple more I would ban ), but I do miss Super Joe and Baa Baa. Hope neither came to a bad end!

Aw well, at least we can now witness a little tete a tete between an irksome, oafish American and a largely sensible one!

What a silly poll, I thought, then voted yes. The fact that it's been moved to Foo speaks volumes about its chances of success.GLCQuantum wrote:Why has this thread been moved to 'Foo'... IT'S A SUGGESTION hence should be in its correct home 'Suggestions and announcements'.
Like talking to a brick wall sometimes.
To be fair to the Powers That Be, you can hardly expect them to start writing to all banned members asking politely if they'd like to come back.
And also, let's face it, the forum is not a virtual Fort Knox. If someone who's been banned really wants to return, it doesn't take much imagination to rejoin under a new user name.
Having said all that, I sort of miss not having anyone to get narky with.
I mean, apart from the occasional spurt of predictable fascist nonsense from the forum's self-proclaimed former wunderkind and all round superior intellect, Mr Homer, there's very little that gets my gander up these days. GLCQ appears to be on tranquillisers, Deep Blue's little 'let's wind up the Brits' campaign is feeble at best and even the football fans section has gone all lovey-dovey and let's all be friends and sing Kumbayah round the campfire.
I'm all for info on the price of lamb and the size of the potholes in soi 102, but give me some spice as well!
This is the way

I searched Sandman, E-Dork and MrPlum, you’re always the instigator in condemning them for their speech and opinions, you’re a holier-than-thou self-righteously pious sanctimonious prick and without a doubt partly responsible for this place being deader than a cemetery at midnight.dtaai-maai wrote:What a silly poll, I thought, then voted yes.
