Monday night buffet at Dusit Thani

Post by migrant »

If we get up to HH on a monday I always liked the buffet. 3-4 carving stations of meat with lots of sides. Oysters, and various other great items. Pricey, but worth it IMHO

Well we went yesterday and the buffet had changed, it was a "eat healthy" buffet. Fish, chicken, rabbit food, not a fat laden meat dish to be found!! Not a dessert eater but a very limited selection unlike the old buffet.

Still the same price, 1,350 baht it is my prediction it will fail, especially at that price, I won't return.

I like seafood, salads, etc but can do that at home. Their shrimp was over cooked but some dishes were tasty, but, again, not what I wanted.

So if you go, and are used to the old buffet, cruise the selection first.

So, as a buffet lover, where is your second choice in HH?

Haven't tried any other. We live 2 hours south of Hua Hin so only go when in town visiting relatives

The Dusit used to be great :|

Having looked at Mc D menu wit a double burger ( Bic Mac with a slice of cardboard bacon claiming to be " Angus steak " with no fries or drink and a hideous coffee for 470 Thb !! I Don't think the Dusit too bad. Would be a shame if it has gone down hill.

I saw a poster for this Friday night steak buffet while out walking yesterday, I don't know if it's any good but you could get your money's worth out of the free flow drink if the food's not to your tastes.

I would venture to guess what Migrant saw at the Dusit won't be permanent. Perhaps a low season offering? Once the Holidays get here and all the tourists I would bet they go back to full meat etc. Someone should check with them in a month. Pete

Hopefully Pete and I will be watching. The buffet did take a hit for low season but still had enough to draw us back, but now, no.

My days of trying to finish a buffet are long gone but living away from the big city I miss items not available by me. The old buffet had enough to keep me going but roasted cauliflower and broccoli don't do it. Don't get me wrong I love the vegies, but can make that at home.

1,350 is quite a bit but the wife doesn't crave meat (should I have said that differently??) so usually orders Thai food off the menu.

It might be a reflection of changing tastes Pete, I'm finding it a constant source of amazement how many of my younger colleagues are going vegan, vegetarian, gluten free or on some other kind of diet. I imagine that they're trying to appeal to that generation with a healthier spread.

so true, being vegan is the in-thing with my younger colleagues too. More and more restaurants in the west are catering to vegans as well, so I guess it will be reflected in LOS too.

I am invited to a vegan wedding next summer :|

I guess I'll be staying in washing my hair that evening

I dont know about this particular buffet but since 2006 the wife and I have stayed in Dusit Thani for a few days most years whilst in Thailand.
We have tried the Seafood buffet on Saturdays , the Bufee in the restaurant by the beach and hte Italian buffet, it's all been very delicious.
On a side note, the Thai food from the menu in the restaurant seving as breakfast room was some of the most delicious I have had. I always avoided that one for dinner as I find the decor a bit clinical and boring, but on one occasion we had been out and about and were tired, we had done the Pavilion the night before so we decided to eat there instead of going back out. We ended up wishing we had eaten there before.

In sum, I would eat in Dusit Thani any day if I want a good meal.
One Day I'm gona die. I can live with that.
