Re opening on Friday 5th at 4.30 in the same location. See their FB page for full details.Jack_Batty wrote: ↑Tue Jan 30, 2024 2:36 pm Well, that didn’t last long. Jalapeños is closing, per their post on FB this morning. Tomorrow is their last day in business. It’s a shame, because they had pretty damn good Mexican food. Owner cites lack of staff and inability to provide quality food that is expected, or something along those lines. Anyways…last chance to try them.

Re: Hua Hin Restaurant News
Good news to hear that Jalapeño’s is making another run at it. I enjoyed the food there on each of my visits.
Speaking of Mexican…I finally tried a place that I had been hearing about lately. Casa de la Tex Mex. After much searching, I think that they only offer delivery from somewhere up in the Hin Lek Fai area.
I ordered a beef burrito and a chicken burrito. The order came to 340฿. The tortilla wraps were very good, and the seasoning on the meat and rice was delicious. It really could have used an option of cheese, sour cream, and guacamole to put it over the top, but for the price and quality I am not complaining and I will order them again. I will just have my ingredients on hand next time.
Each burrito was accompanied by a tiny bag of hot sauce, a bag of fried tortilla chips, and a little container of chunky salsa. The hot sauce was just ok. I had brought several hot sauces back with me from the US and they did nicely with these burritos. Everything tasted Tex-Mex authentic.
I had just returned this week from a visit to Texas and was really missing some good Mexican food. While not perfect, this Mexican place certainly did enough to scratch that itch.

JIT Pochana Restaurant Permanently Closed
I guess I wasn't surprised to see that the Cha Am branch of JIT Pochana (จิตรโภชนา) is permanently closed. It opened about four years ago, after the original restaurant on the site (Alpaca?) closed.
I suspect it was a bit upscale for the Cha Am crowd. We only went a few times; but always enjoyed the food. The main attractions for us were air conditioned lunchtime dining and the fact that it was only ten minutes away by bicycle.
The facility is quite large. I wonder what sort of restaurant could make it there? (Or, anywhere, for that matter.)

Little Mermaid Soi 94
I see the Little Mermaid restaurant in Soi 94 is up for sale. This was my favorite restaurant in Soi 94. I always emptied my plate. I don't know of any other restaurant in Hua Hin with a similar menu (Danish). If there is one then please let me know. Does anybody know what happened to the Little Mermaid?

Most often restaurants are for sale whilst still trading but maybe they couldn't afford to keep the lights on

They have closed for holiday. Going to Denmark for about a month I believe, and as most businesses here they are for sale if the price is right.thecolonel wrote:Must be desperate if closed and up for sale tooHarryVardon wrote:Little Mermaid Soi 94

The Lounge, Cha Am - Closed For Good
Cycling by this morning I was sad to see that The Lounge bar and restaurant on Soi Bus Stop seems to be permanently closed. A shame because it was one of the only (THE only?) place to get draft Guinness in Cha Am. And, it had pretty decent pub food. Are things really that grim?
Hua Hin Restaurant News
I am amazed that any bar/food place in Cha am, set up with farangs in mind, suvives, unless they are happy just surviving. I think owners eventually decide that pastures elsewhere are greener.
Talk is cheap
Re: Hua Hin Restaurant News
After posting I learned that they’re moving to Dolphin Bay.
Oddly, Korat is about the same. AFAIK there is only one Farang oriented bar left. That would be Monkey Bar. When I first moved to Korat in 2005 there were at least a dozen.

As an American and smash burger..well, any burger, fanatic, I was bummed to see that Robin Hood was sold and renamed. Those were great smash burgers by a Scottish guy. The place is now called Father & Son, and they have ‘smash burger’ written on their sign. Anyone been there lately? How is it?

Had to google smashburger. Sounds good, I might try one and see if I can it down my reconstructed funnel of a foodpipe. I miss burgers
This is the way

It must have opened very recently because that property was still closed when I was there last month, I go past there every evening.Jack_Batty wrote: ↑Sun Jul 14, 2024 3:38 pm As an American and smash burger..well, any burger, fanatic, I was bummed to see that Robin Hood was sold and renamed. It's on Soi Mon Mai on the left, between Lotuswell resort and Spark Cafe.
