Nescafe
Re: Nescafe
A quick search of HHF did not result in any recent info. Google reveals the Little Vietnam restaurant in HH, but the latest review was in 2016 - so of little use now...
Even the mighty Google cannot help with locally available Viet. coffee.
(P.S. Homer - I wasn't being lazy - I'm retired and have all the time in the world)

Re: Nescafe
You're certain it's no longer in business?
I just searched. There is another location listed on the first page of results.
Re: Nescafe
Forgive me, but I still can't see any recent info confirming where the Little Vietnam now is or whether it is still in business.
(I saw something on Trip Advisor from March 2015 saying it had moved to near a 7/11).
Apologies to Homer if I've missed it again...

Just tried the Khao Shong instant coffee with caramel. I'm sold!

94 posts about a coffee "surrogate".......A majority here are clearly not from coffee drinking countries...
Having lived in Scandinavia most of my life.....where people drink a lot of coffee....Finland, Norway,Iceland, Denmark and Sweden are topping the list of coffee consumption/per capita..... When arriving at work early in the morning, nothing is done before everyone had their cup of coffee.....REAL coffee made from coffee beans....Nobody would even consider granulated Nescafe or even worse....2 in 1 or 3 in 1.
Judged by the replies here...most posters are happy with a brownish liquid tasting just a little like the real thing...
But don't despair......It is because the lack of coffee culture/tradition in your home countries.
On the list of coffee consumption per capita...US is ranked 26th and the UK 45th...

Re: Nescafe
this made me laugh, your description of Sweden, Denmark, Finland etc of arriving at work and nothing is even considered before proper coffee (made from beans) has been had sounds so much like Holland where I live. Workmen come to your house, forget them even starting before a coffee...anyway, I just googled the coffee consumption per capita thingy and The Netherlands is number #5 , just after the countries you named. So it figures your description sounded very "hey I know that". The first words I learned in Dutch weren't the normal ones like hello goodbye please or thank you, no it was "effe een bakkie eerst" which is "first a cup of coffee". Not because I drank the stuff back then, I was still a Nescafe Brit back then, but I just heard the phrase so often, it was THE most used phrase to my ears.T.O.M. wrote: ↑Fri Jul 27, 2018 4:34 pm 94 posts about a coffee "surrogate".......A majority here are clearly not from coffee drinking countries...

Re: Nescafe
To be fair, a lot of the posters on this thread have said that hey much prefer a freshly brewed coffee rather than an instant - the main part of the thread was that the Nescafé instant formula changed and what might have been acceptable to a lot of drinkers, all of a sudden became un-drinkable. I’m from the 45th nation in terms of consumption, but I only drink coffee made from freshly ground beans made into a latte/capuchino, although I still prefer tea to coffee, preferably made with loose leaf tea rather than tea-bagsT.O.M. wrote: ↑Fri Jul 27, 2018 4:34 pm 94 posts about a coffee "surrogate".......A majority here are clearly not from coffee drinking countries...

Re: Nescafe
Yes, very perceptive of you T.O.M. However, if you bothered to read any of the 94 posts, you would have seen:
If you want to discuss beans, why not start a new thread? Piggybacking on the back of a "surrogate" means that anybody coming on here looking for information about "real coffee beans" is unlikely to find the information they are looking for.
in the OP. If that wasn't a big enough clue, the title Nescafe should have given you a clue what the thread was about.yes, I know some of you will say that means I don't like coffee, but it is what has hit the mark with my taste buds for over 40 years

Re: Nescafe
I see BBs point this is nt meant to be a general Coffee thread, but like may forum threads it has wandered into the topic of coffee in general. Before coming to Asia I used to have a little coffee grinder and had coffee made from freshly ground beans. One advantage of this is the wonderful smell of the ground coffee beans.
Re: Nescafe
Do you not understand, a new thread on coffee beans will stand out, rather than hiding it inside a thread about something else?oakdale160 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 27, 2018 7:51 pm I see BBs point this is nt meant to be a general Coffee thread, but like may forum threads it has wandered into the topic of coffee in general. Newbies looking for information about coffee beans will not locate it easily on this thread.

Re: Nescafe
I had British friends who used to make their Nescafe with boiled milk, no water, just milk--is that common.
Re: Nescafe
That's exactly how my mother and my grandmother made coffee when I was a kid. Coffee, sugar and hot milk.
I remember I always complained because it had a skin on the top!!

Re: Nescafe
Good Saturday a.m. Just had a coffee (instant) and this thread popped up. Was looking at the coffee jars this morning, and avoided to Nescafe Gold as I find it rather bland. My wife has been bringing back a brand called Tchibo Gold, much better than Nescafe, and apparently from Germany.
Disclaimer: I am not a coffee drinker, just like to have that one cup in the morning to get me started. As for coffee in The Netherlands, even the stuff that comes out of the coffee machines will really get your eyes open. Every coffee break, they would have a coffee (sterk - no sugar or milk). But the first words I learnt were, ein bier, twee bier, Trappist (dark beer brewed by the Trappist monks)..
