INTERNET CONNECTION
INTERNET CONNECTION
.
On setting up your internet browser connections make sure you use a
032-5XXXX number. If you use a 032-4XXXX number or any other
such number you'll not pay the regular 3 baht/connection internet
connection price. They'll charge you a regular telephone call rate.
And that'll be dear.
Anyone know if broadband is available in HH?

I got caught on that one!
That's right, unless it's 032-5.... you get caught full rate, cost me a xxxxfortune! The best deal though is a 1222 number. You can get Loxinfo for about 650-700 which gives you about 68 basic house but that is heavily reduced from midnight to 8 am, so you can get about 80-100 hours easily. The 1222 number that you dial is a flat cheap rate 'per call', cheaper than the 032 numbers and much much faster.
Loxinfo connects faster than CS Internet and also everything just seems faster and more reliable.
You can get the Loxinfo 'pack'(password/id inside)at the Internet cafe on the left between old Blue Star and the station.

The 032-5xxxxx numbers are this province therefore you'll get charged 3 baht per connection. The 032-4xxxxx numbers are usually Phetburi province so you'll get charged 12 baht per minute.
I would have to disagree with your comments on the 1222 connection. It is the worst I have ever seen. When it finally does get through (one instance it dialled 196 times before connecting), it is the slowest connection of the lot. That number is used by every ISP (CS, Lox, TOT, Roynet etc) so everyone is always on it .... very slow.
I would recommend using one of the packages with their own dedicated dialup number (eg CS 032-529606/032-529999 or Loxinfo 032-547447).
Broadband is not available in Hua Hin ... we can only hope and dream

Csnet, never again!
'
Again Csnet is "unable to make the connection" while Loxnet works fine.
Loxnet seems to be even slightly cheaper.

Internet connection and security
Because of my business I receive at least 5 calls a day about the computer problems, but unfortunately can't respond to all of them every time.
So here are some quick tips to enhance and secure your Internet connection:
Get your computer grounded well
Just buy a couple of meters of single thread (at least 1.50 mm in diameter) wire and connect one end on to any of the screws behind (needs to metal) the CPU body/box.
Connect the other end of the wire to metal rod (at least 50 cms) and stick that rod in to your garden soil. A few common mistakes here is, to connect the wire to the concrete, water line, window frames or plant pot, which doesn't really help. It has to go in the ground on real soil in your garden!
This way you will not get electrocuted every time you touch your screen or computer box. It will protect your motherboard, hard disk, monitor and modem from the electric storms, which happens quite a lot in Thailand, plus it will improve your connection speed.
Protect your computer from enemies out there
Download worlds best and free antivirus software at http://www.grisoft.com and get rid of those expensive and heavy ones you might have.
Most of those programs suck a good 60% of your CPU and Ram resources and slow-down your computer. Make sure you uninstall your existing Antivirus program before you install AVG6.
Download Adaware program to find out who is watching your every move on the Internet and spying in your computer. This one is free too. The address is http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
I hope this helps.

I am KICKING myself....how did I miss this post ??? My stupidity has cost me almost 15,000 baht I figure..... by listening to a store clerk who told me 0324xxxx was the local CSLOxInfo access number..... and 60 hours of access later before I found out.....
The REAL benefit of these forums is USING them and reading more carefulyy...
Anyone know if I stand ANY chance disputing this with TOT ??

I do not know anything about computers. My connection has been running at 31,200 most times. Accessable, but not quick.
Had TOT around to the house a few days ago. They checked the line on the main road and connected with their laptop to my phone line, that showed 52,000.
Is this a modem problem?
The TOT people charged nothing and were polite.

Broadband Hua Hin
Welcome to the board,
You can already get 'broadband' (128/256) connections here but they are far from cheap. Only really economically viable for corporate use, home users are better off on dialup. The 'home' packages offered by providers here are still around 2500 - 3000 baht per month and have limited bandwidth so we're still at least 2 years behind bangkok and phuket.
