That Hauppage HD PVR 2 is an interesting device. It's intention is clearly to record TV signals from a set top box. The user guide shows the set top box (STB) feed to the PVR as AV component, but maybe one of the 2 HDMI ports can accept input from an STB which only has a HDMI port. The other HDMI port is for output to a TV or monitor. Input to a Windows PC is via USB. I suppose it might be possible to record an internet stream playing on a PC that has HDMI out (i.e. the PC replaces the STB). The question then is whether the PVR USB connection needs to be on a separate PC, or whether the same PC can run the PVR recording software at the same time as the stream.

This HD PVR is not a tuner. The tuner is in the set top box. My earlier post was referring to other Hauppage products which include the tuner functionality. Sorry for the confusion.

^^ Or even use an Android device with HDMI out instead of PC for accessing the internet stream.

I find the whole thing really confusing. Since coming to Thailand it is something that has annoyed the hell out of me. Thais do not seem to record anything - even for posterity - whereas it was an everyday thing in the UK. People go out for meals and other events and set the DVD Recorder to record Coronation Street or whatever when they go out. I had a collection of FA Cup Finals and MotoGP races but have not been able to do it since coming here - and most of these things are not available on Youtube or anything like that, so even downloading it is not a solution. I am not particularly technically minded but the question would be is it worthwhile getting one of these Hauppage HD PVR-2 devices in the vain hope I could get it to work or will it just be gathering dust next to my DVD Recorder??

Your real question should be what do you want to record? In Thailand the main TV interest seems to be on soaps. There's really nothing else worth recording and these are usually available on YouTube or some other form of catch up.

You're also posting on another thread about Kodi. If there's Kodi stuff that you want to save then maybe consider other methods, e.g. TeaTV (Windows) for TV shows and movies. You can watch or download. If you really want to record live streams then something like the HD PVR 2 is probably the best way. But as pointed out in a previous post there may be software solutions.

Incidentally, there are many devices like the HD PVR 2 available. You can find quite a few on Lazada by searching for HDMI capture. They seem to be calling them game capture devices because that is certainly one use and probably because recording streams may be illegal in some jurisdictions.

Also, modern digital TVs allow for direct recording of digital transmissions received through the antenna port, as do set top boxes.

TeatimeTv being discussed in another thread also allows downloading of programs from its catch up library.

^^ Should probably also mention torrent downloading as another option.

Yep, this site has pretty much all of the current TV shows available for download: https://eztv.ag/
