It's a Free To Air satellite receiver system.
Non-encrypted digital channels can be received by this system.
You can receive thai channels and from quite many other countries as well.
I guess he want to break the codes for the coded /encrypted program packets as he wants someone who can program in english?

I've used the FTA satellite for many years, and have recently changed over to digital. There are two main suppliers of equipment, PSI satellite and Dynasat.

I would recommend you look up the www.dynasat.com website, although most of it is in Thai. A moving dish setup for home use starts at around 22,000 baht. Some software encryption is built-in to the receivers, so you can receive English-language programs off several satellites - I get BBC and stuff off the air. The only problem is sometimes the coding changes and you have to get it reprogrammed. The local dealer should have the necessary software, you don't have to go to the head office. You can download off the net, but you'll need a cable and they're quite slow in this respect.

They also have receivers that accomodate cards - you can get some pretty raunchy channels with this! Of course, the cards are subscription based...

It's a good alternative to cable if you're not glued to the goggle-box the whole day.

I have a DP303 Digital Receiver Box from the PSI Holding Satellite Comp. with a BIIIG dish.
Receives BBC World, Deutsche Welle as well as 50 - 60 other channels.
If you are keen to see tv from India, Indonesia, China and the Arab world, then it's perfect.
But, not for me.

Cost me 25G to receive the BBC!!
I intend to live forever - so far so good.
