Which Mobile Phone?
Re: Which Mobile Phone?
I was looking for a small, lightweight smartphone that would fit in my shorts pocket, without banging about as I walked and pulling my shorts down.
The Xiaomi 4A seemed to fit the bill - 5 inch and 131 grams, plus 2 GB of RAM, and it has lots of good reviews though does not appear to have a Gorilla glass screen and may scratch?
I ordered the Xiaomi 4A from GearBest (China), plus a phone case from GearBest (HK).
GearBest (China) queried my credit card and asked to see 'two evidences' such as my utility bill, etc.
Too much trouble - I cancelled the order - no problem.
I let the phone case order (just a few dollars) go through and received the phone case a few days later, but not much use without the phone.
Then I decided to buy a Samsung J1 (2016) in BluePort, as I noted that it had good user reviews, but not to be confused with J1 (2015) which was not a good buy.
It weighs about 131 grams and has a 4.5 inch screen - my main criteria.
I'm very happy with the J1 at about 3,700 Baht.
It has 5MP camera, ! GB AM and 8 GB storage - all of which represent poor value for money by most accounts.
I like the long battery life and the super amoled screen. As a basic smartphone - I cannot find fault it.
As for the Xiaomi 4A, I've seen it on sale in Bangkok and may buy one later (about 3,500 Baht).

I have a Huawei so it's green tea for me.
Re: Which Mobile Phone?
The phone probably appeals to those with a major interest in practical engineering/technology. Daughter has bought several in OZ and has been extremely happy with them. She operates a heavy haulage/ earthmoving business operating into remote northern areas of Australia and found the FLIR particularly helpful. As example, early identification of overheated tires/brakes/bearings etc.404cameljockey wrote: ↑Fri Nov 24, 2017 7:56 amThat's obvious, I was just responding to the unusual nature of the phone that Bluesky posted. Re: Which Mobile Phone?
At the start of the year I bought a Vivo Y31 from a shop on the top floor of M.V.
Now this phone is ideal for me..does everything I need, dual sim, 4g,good camera & at 4000B new to me it's a good package.
(When I got this in Feb. hardly anyone had heard of 'Vivo'..now their products are everywhere, & the top-floor in M.V. is awash with VIVO signage).

Re: Which Mobile Phone?
That phone uses the FLIR Lepton IR microcam with 80x60 resolution in a tough enclosure.... found the FLIR particularly helpful. As example, early identification of overheated tires/brakes/bearings etc.
If one can miss the rugged enclosure & integration then there are cheaper attached IR cams for Android & Apple phones. The FLIR One Pro gives better specs/features for USD400 at http://www.flir.com/flirone. With their free image processing software that certainly suits various entry level applications.

Quite happy with my Doogee x5Pro. Excellent camera.
Re: Which Mobile Phone?
That may be, and sorry for repeating myself, but Doogee are known for releasing phones with adware and tracking software pre-loaded on. I'm aware that you've checked yours and, luckily for you, yours appears to be clean. But that said I feel the need to put up this warning any time I see a Doogee recommended, in case anybody takes the recommendation on board and doesn't get so lucky.
Re: Which Mobile Phone?
Anyone know where to order replacement phone batteries? Nothing on Lazada and eBay only has cheapo Chinese ones that they cant ship and will probably last 3 months.

Re: Which Mobile Phone?
I've always gone to the local phone shop, and emphasised I wanted genuine, not fake. I was a bit shocked at the price, but in the grand scheme of things, it's not an everyday purchase, and maybe the cost of 1 beer more than I would have expected.
I used to worry about authenticity, but the replacements I've bought have been fine. There's no guarantee that Lazada would supply the genuine article either.

Re: Which Mobile Phone?
A couple of years ago I needed a new phone battery for a Chinese import. I found a shop on the top floor of MV which has all sorts of phone batteries. The owner didn't recognise my phone brand, but he fetched many batteries that looked similar to my old one. He even took likely ones out of their packs to compare and try. Eventually found battery that fitted perfectly but didn't work - the battery terminals polarity was the wrong way round. A very helpful guy. You may have more luck with yours. The shop was at the cinema end of the phone section on the car park side.

Our local phone shops are primitive at best which is why I was looking online. I have no desire to see Hua Hin again for some time.
