Looking forward to ice cream sandwich
Re: The Android Thread
Before I join the Android army a quick question: I presume it is easy enough to tether an Android phone to a laptop so that it can use the EDGE/GPRS connection? Was doable with an iPhone and Nokia.

Re: The Android Thread
My htc Wildfire S manual says it's possible, though I haven't tried it. Given what I know about a firm having distinctly different offerings in a product space (that is, different phones for different customer types, but I wanted to see if I remembered the lingo from my first career) and adding their own modifications to Android, I'd be pleasantly surprised if this were true of all android phones.buksida wrote:Before I join the Android army a quick question: I presume it is easy enough to tether an Android phone to a laptop so that it can use the EDGE/GPRS connection? Re: The Android Thread
Just 5 button presses on my phone and it's a wifi hotspot, no idea if that's the case with all Androids though.buksida wrote:Before I join the Android army a quick question: I presume it is easy enough to tether an Android phone to a laptop so that it can use the EDGE/GPRS connection? Re: The Android Thread
Wifi is not the issue as the laptop will connect itself to it - I need to be able to tether the EDGE/GPRS connection when there is no wifi available ... works fine with the Nokia 6300.

Re: The Android Thread
Yes, that's what I'm saying, the phone becomes a hotspot for other devices using its 3G/Edge connection.
Re: The Android Thread
Cool, I presume I can just throw my existing One-2-Call sim in it and it will work with no unlocking/jailbreaking that you need to do with Apple?

Re: The Android Thread
Yes, no problem.
Android is much more open than ios in general.
Just had a look on Android Market and there's loads of free tethering apps even if your model doesn't do it out of the box.

Re: The Android Thread
I'll admit that I'm a bit (a lot) dumb with regards to Android phones. I'm asking these questions on behalf of a friend:
- Does the Blackberry 9900 fall into the Android, or similar bracket?
- Is it possible to tether the 9900 to a laptop as described by BaaBaa. above?

Re: The Android Thread
Android is just Googles operating system, available on all different makes of handsets.
And no, BlackBerry has its own operating system.

Re: The Android Thread
OK, thank you - that answers part 1.
Does anybody know if it's possible to turn a Blackberry into a WiFi Hotspot? If not WiFi, is it possible to simply tether it?

Re: The Android Thread
Hi all,
My tethering works great on my Nexus S here in the UK on 3 (Three) and 1-2 call AIS in Thailand 3g/EDGE. Tethering is deisgned to convert your 3g/4g connection in to a sort of a wireless router.
Using it right now!
I have cancelled my Virgin contract in the UK as I only use tethering now.
