It's astounding to me that a for-profit concern would let a new website go live without having first tested it on the full range of popular browsers and platforms. The notion of forcing iOS users to pay for a version that works is laughable.

Just because you can't instantly reproduce an error doesn't mean that there's not a problem. The error messages I posted should be given to the developers so they can decide whether or not there is a problem that needs attention. That's why I posted it.

Using the viewport meta tag is problematic because it requires a complete change in the way you specify the size of web page elements including blocks, frames, fonts, etc. I see your developers experimented with specifying font sizes using percentages but apparently give up and went back to using absolute point sizes.
I'm sorry that this has caused you so many problems just as I'm sorry that my attempts to help were simply brushed off.
I view the forum on my iPad 2 and haven't had any problems once I got used to the new way of navigating.

We are still configuring the feed functions and should have them working shortly.

For your information we tested the software for weeks in advance on PCs, Macs, iPhones, Samsungs, and Android tablets and across multiple browsers including Firefox, IE, Chrome, Opera and Safari and did not encounter the problems you are having. As we have already told you WE ARE STILL WORKING ON THE SITE and have been doing so since it went live so your attacks are unwarranted.

We have also provided an app for you to use with the re-installation of Tapatalk but it seems that this is not enough for you. If you feel so aggrieved by our efforts please contact the software developers directly at http://www.phpbb.com as we have already done on your behalf.

Please read the above.

Thank you, this disproved the false accusation that we launched a site that does not work for ALL iOS USERS. The truth is that it does not display properly on two iPads.

The fact it displays fine on your iPad Dannie Boy is why these things are not easy to trouble shoot, it works on one iPad but not another. It would help if those having problems provided us with some information such as iPad model, browser, screen resolution, and OS version instead of ranting and stamping their feet so that we can determine why the site is not displaying properly on their devices but looks fine on everyone elses.

Lev. I don't see any attacks on the new software. The posts are pointing out the issues that the new software brings so that you can solve them.

I haven't checked every post but those that I have seen are from regular posters who want you to get it right.

We all know that software upgrades of this type are not easy.

If you did not get feedback would be the time to be concerned... Well.that's my opinion for what it's worth.

Keep on working on the issues one-by-one.

I miss the function "Mark the Forum read". Will this be possible? I like to log in and click new posts (which I have found under quick links), but when I logged back in today many of the same posts I saw yesterday are still coming up as new posts even though there are no new posts from yesterday. So for me the function in the old layout was working very good. Before I logged out I marked the whole Forum Read, and when I logged in the next time I only got threads with new posts.

Go to the forum index page (HOME) and on right hand side under last visit time and date you'll find it. Pete

I'm having no problems with the new layout, though I don't have to deal with apps, smartphone, iPad and Apple issues.
Having said that, I had no problems with the previous layout either!

One question: the entire forum display, including ads, sponsors, exchange rates, etc., takes up about 80% of the width of my screen, with a 10% blank space on either side. Why this wasted space?

Click on your name in top right hand corner, go into User Control Panel, click Board Preferences, click Edit Display Options. On the list presented change the Use Full Width option to Yes.

The new software has two display options which should alleviate MOST display problems:

Why this Forum change?

Post by margaretcarnes »

Sorry guys but the new format and layout of the Forum just doesn't hack it for me. The colour is sickening for a start. The banner on the intro page makes it look as if the forum is being run by HotProperties. Is that the case?

Hopefully as changes are fully implemented we may once again be able to see some useful info on the posters and their status. With time the sickly colour might become easier on the eye. But for now it really isn't floating my boat.

Much better, thanks!

EDIT: Just a (very idle) thought - is it possible to have the Quick links at the bottom of the page as well as the top?
