Calling All Canadians
Just curious as to how many Canadian expats live in Hua Hin and where in Canada they are from. I personally am from Vernon, BC.

Hi Mathew, I spoke to you before. You were considering renting my home in Hua Hin a few summers back. We were going to meet for a beer in Whitehorse but we never did. We will be in Hua Hin in Jan - March.

Hi Canthai,
While I am not Canadian but English, have met loads of Canadians who live here (and some that come just for the winter months) that either socialise from time to time or regularly, but don't think many of them post on HHAD unfortunately.
Met them mostly through Craig who owns U-Turn bar, a top top guy, I'm sure you know him already but there is a whole network of Canadians that can be found via Craig. They all seem a great bunch socially and the good thing is they are a varied bunch.
Cheers,
SJ

Barry Niles, a long time Hua Hin expat who owns a bar out on the Pala U road (across from La Valee development) is from Canada (Victoria, B.C., I think), Jim Currie formerly of the Coconuts bar chain is Canadian although he's been an expat of the world for decades now and living in Hua Hin for many years, and another Jim who used to teach golf lessons at Pai Mai is a long timer here who is still around though he has retired from golf. Barry could get in touch with him. I know several other Canadians who are part time residents.
Never met a Canadian I didn't like!

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
I'm a Brit but know many Canadians in HH and other parts of Thailand and most seem to come from BC
Barrys place up Palu and Uturn down Binter are the places most frequented by them. Never met a nicer friendlier bunch of guys and gals.
Theres Bob and Virginia, Brian, Capt Dave, Barry, Big Al, Little Al (with all his gold) Mikie, Craig, Alan (phoenix bar up Palu) and many more who I apologise to for their omission
Have fratanised with many of the 3 to 6 month guys as well. They are over in force about now. Been seeing them over for the same time for over 6 years. some of course eventually pull the plug and settle here in HH
Good hunting. Cant miss em. They usually wear a smile wider than a Thai BG

It’s none of my business what people say and think of me. I am what I am and do what I do. I expect nothing and accept everything. It makes life so much easier.

SJ,Agree you can't miss 'em, look a bit like Americans only you can't hear them.
Last time I looked at a globe, they were Americans, as are Mexicans, Belizeers, Hondurans, Guatemalans, Costa Ricans, Nicaraguans, El Salvadorians, Panamanians, Ecuadorians, Colombians, Venezuelans, Brazilians, Chileans, Argentines, Bolivians, French Guineans, Guyanese, Uruguayans, Paraguayans, Peruvians, and Surinamese; as well as a host of Caribbean, Atlantic and Pacific (1) Island countries and archipelagos too numerous to mention as they are all part of the North and South American continents, just as Europeans, Asians, and Africans come from many different countries... but I know what you meant.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
Before anyone gets too romantic about a certain nationality, they should remember that all countries have the good division and all countries have the FUBAR section that is to be avoided. Anyone that has stayed here for a few years will get on with this slant and will know better.
I have met good characters from many countries but have also met the "lost it" brigade from everywhere.
Hmmmm.............. Let's not get too over exuberant gentlemen, not about nationality, it's about personality. I have met some insane Canadians as much as I've met insane Brits/Germans/Italians/Spanish/Thais etc etc etc.
May I be pertinate to say it's an individual thing, generalisations on this one are misleading.
Slate me if you want, up to you, and I don't want put a downer on this optimistic thread but just mentioning the reality.
